Jetski, boat hoons nabbed in blitz---(Australia)

Quote:
EIGHTEEN infringement notices have been issued to jet ski and boat owners during a blitz on water hoons on the Gold Coast.

Queensland Transport Minister Paul Lucas today said the notices were issued over three days at Tallebudgera and Currumbin Creeks during a joint agency operation last month.

"Operation Drop-In was initially developed as a jet ski compliance campaign at Currumbin Creek, but marine inspectors expanded it after observing the antics of some small boat operators in the area," he said.

"Inspectors had been monitoring boating and jet ski activity in the area to identify peak times and places for particular problems.

"The main problems seemed to be speeding and jet skis ignoring distance-off requirements, particularly from people in the water."

Water police, Marine Safety and Boating and Fisheries Patrol officers intercepted 78 vessels, including 35 jet skis, issuing 18 notices for breaches such as speeding, non-registration and incorrect safety gear.

Officers also warned boat owners about new laws which require life jackets to be worn when vessels are taken over declared coast bars.

"(This operation) shows what can be achieved when state government agencies work together to target hoons on the water," Mr Lucas said.

"Their reckless actions put their own lives at risk and endanger the lives of others using our waterways."

Yes we will, as long as riders comply with rules and regulations.

We have just had a win here, about 10 miles north of Currumbin, when it was threatened that some of the local ramps, very near to me were to be closed to PWC.

Some of us saw our local government members, as well as emailed others showing them we are a mature group.

The ramps at a full local government meeting have now been left open to us, but we are not to run engines---fire them up at home, and flush your ski at home----sure it's a trade off, but better than no local ramps and a big drive to one where there are no houses.

Love the way the article is written to make it sound like the mass majority of problems came from jetskiers.....they accounted for 44.87% =/

Rodneyh, best if you log on to ozpwc.com message board.

Lisa Lisa, how true it is. lt's a continual battle, all we seem to get is bad press, but little if any mention of other water vessel bad boys.
You know me girl, would l be bad. LOL
