Jerry Brown petitions for even more strict emissions control in CA

Got this from John Donaldson - our man in the know/trenches over at Freeman McHugh....Ralph's back and gunnin' for more EPA crackdowns on PWC and offroad vehicles - of course at an added expense to the owners

===============

California AG Efforts to Enforce Clean Air Act. California Attorney General Jerry Brown will petition federal regulators today (2/3/08) to set stricter emission standards on off-road vehicles such as snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles and personal watercraft. Brown said he wants the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to exercise its authority under the Clean Air Act and court decisions to set greenhouse-gas emission standards for new off-road equipment, which also includes tractors, forklifts and some lawn mowers.
Off- road vehicle manufacturers feel strongly this legislation would trigger higher prices, lower performance and possibly hinder industry growth.

Welcome to the pain that the auto industry has suffered under for years. Regulation and standards will happen to to the off-road sector - it's only a matter of time.

They don't call him "moonbeam" for nothing. I moved out of California more than 15 years ago and I don't miss it yet.

Good, stick some Bush bashing in there. Perhaps you've forgotten that Dems were closing national parks to pwc's and snowmobiles before Bush? And pushing for a tax on sulpher (in diesel fuel) which would have likely killed the trucking industry? And one of the Dem's prime candidates wrote a book advocating getting rid of gasoline powered motors completely?

Go ride your bicycle to work, I hope it's close by. And be sure to have your horse drawn wagon there after you paddle your canoe downriver to take you back up.

This weekend I hope to be sledding (snowmobiling) if I can find the time. Don't think I'd care for the condition in which an ox team drawn trail groomer would leave the trails - have to keep an eye out for those droppings. I'd vote for Bush again.

Re: Jerry Brown petitions for even more strict emissions control in CA

So where do PWC's fall in this petition? I'm guessing it's pleasure craft. After reviewing this petition it appears that "pleasure craft" produces a very small amount of of the pollution problem. It seems, however, that the construction and mining industry is the REAL problem. If you have ever been anywhere near these industries you might notice that there equipment is almost always outdated and poorly maintained. Maybe if the state put forth some type of tax incentive for companies who purchase newer equipment they would be more apt to do so. Furthermore, how many PWC owners allow their crafts to go unmaintained? No one wants to ride a ski (or bike) that run's like crap. If Jerry Brown keeps getting his way, he is going to kill two already hurting sports. My two favorites....Jet Skiing and Motocross. Is there anything we can do to fight Jerry Brown?
