| Gulf Islands National Seashore--(Florida & Mississippi)***Final Decision!*** Ok everyone..here's the final update to the Gulf Islands National Seashore PWC Regulation...for those out of the loop, here's the happenings from the beginning! Public invited to comment on personal watercraft rule Gulf Islands National Seashore **UPDATE***
With the persistence of PWCToday members, general PWC enthusiasts and Chris Manthos of the AWA...(atta boy Chris!)...this is the final result!! Quote:
Gulf Islands National Seashore Announces Final Regulation for Personal Watercraft Use Superintendent Jerry Eubanks announced today that the final regulation for Personal Watercraft (PWC) use at Gulf Islands National Seashore has been published in the Federal Register and is effective today, May 4, 2006. The final rule allows PWC use in all park waters which are open to other types of watercraft, but establishes a flat wake speed zone within 300 yards from park shorelines, except around the wilderness islands of Horn and Petit Bois where the flat wake zone extends a half mile from the shoreline, and around the Ship Island pier, where the flat wake zone extends a half mile from the shoreline and from either side of the pier. Eubanks stated, “The final rule has been a long time coming; we feel that this regulation achieves balance in our goals of providing visitor access, safety, and protecting the valuable resources under our care.” The final regulation can be downloaded or viewed from the Park’s website at www.nps.gov/guis, the Federal Register at www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/aces/fr-cont.html, or a hard copy may be requested by calling (850) 934-2604 in Florida, (228) 875-9057 in Mississippi, or by writing to the Superintendent at the following address:
