Brandon businessman presumed dead following jet ski collision

RIDGELAND, Miss. - A Brandon businessman was presumed dead Friday after a late-night jet ski collision at the Ross Barnett Reservoir, authorities said. Robert J. Joey Giordano, 50, fell into the water and disappeared shortly before midnight Wednesday, police said. A search of the reservoir northeast of Jackson yielded no results. Divers were returning Friday to resume the search, Reservoir Fire Chief Scott Berry said.
Giordano was the owner of a Ridgeland independent insurance agency and on the board of several Jackson metropolitan area companies. Authorities said Giordano had been riding jet skis with Christopher DeCamp Sr., 38; DeCamp's son, Christopher DeCamp Jr., 16; and 16-year-old Bradley Youngblood.
Authorities were still piecing together exactly what happened, but Reservoir Fire Chief Scott Berry said the foursome, all from Brandon, went out on the water Wednesday night.
Sgt. Randy Newell, conservation officer with the state Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, said it appeared that Giordano was a passenger on a jet ski driven by DeCamp Jr.
The elder DeCamp had Youngblood riding on the back of his jet ski and had apparently stopped in the water when the other jet ski collided with his, knocking Giordano into the water, Newell said.
Under state law, it is a misdemeanor to operate a jet ski at night. The fine ranges from $25 to $100, plus court costs, but authorities are still investigating the accident.

Re: Brandon businessman presumed dead following jet ski collision

Davo and I were running bouys there that day. I have two businesses in Brandon also. This cat was a well known business man in the Brandon area. Its a shame but everyone knows you can't ride skis at night for this very reason. Our prayers go out to his family and friends.......

Re: Brandon businessman presumed dead following jet ski collision

This may sound like a stupid question but don't you have to wear a life vest out there??

Let's just say that if you're bright enough to be riding at midnight, you must be bright enough to not need a PFD.

Boy...I wonder if any alcohol was involved???

Re: Brandon businessman presumed dead following jet ski collision

There was someone said that one of them refuse to take a
alcohol test at the lake, that mixed with night riding and no
life vest equals no brains and no life. You would think someone
would know better, I ride out there every weekend for the last
15 years and there are a tons of things you can hit in that water, not
just another boat or ski.

Again I say let's rename this to "Morons in the News". Though my heart goes out to the family of this man, how many times are we going to hear virtually the same story??? night riding, no pfd, possibly alcohol???? DUHHH!!!

Re: Brandon businessman presumed dead following jet ski collision

Whats up with all these negative posts always at the top of the home page? I mean damn Im a huge advocate of safety etc. How many people went on the water that day, during the day, with a vest, or god forbid a helmet and goggles and had great fun and are still alive to tell about it. Just tired of seeing this crap every time I log in.
