4th of July Closures in California

Popular Lake Berryessa party spot closed

The Pope Creek Bridge Waterway, a popular party spot at Lake Berryessa, was closed Memorial Day weekend to motorized and non-motorized watercraft and will be closed again during the Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends, the U.S. Bureau Reclamation announced.

The closure is intended to prevent unsafe conditions caused by thousands of visitors congregating in that area, Bureau of Reclamation and the Napa County Sheriff's Department officials said.

The closed area was designated by buoys and the area will reopen after each of the three holiday weekends.

The upcoming closures are scheduled to take effect at 1 p.m. on the Thursday before the holiday weekends until 3 p.m. of the following Tuesday.

This is an annual thing at Berryessa though...they close those areas (and rightfully so IMHO) to avoid having to police a bunch of drunks, most of who do nothing but cause problems and get hurt...then need to be rescued on our taxpayers dime.

Re: 4th of July Closures in California

you got it Lisa, they have been closing that area down for the last 2-3 years. the amount of "walkers" caused alot of people at the top of the rocks and on the bridge. I've watched people jump off the bridge without any regard to the boats below. I think it was a good idea things where getting out of hand IMO

It's actually called Putah Creek. Too bad...always fun to see some drunk jump off the bridge and crack his head open on the rocks...well that really only happened during the drought years in the early 1990's.

Does suck though but to be safe...I guess they gotta close it.

That describes at least 50% of the people on Berryessa on any given weekend. The last time I was there with 2 other families (total of 8 kids) 3 campsites down there was a binge drinking/marijuana party going on all weekend that the campground did nothing to stop. thank god they didn't have boats because they could have killed someone.

Putah Creek Gets crazy. The last couple years all the boats just tie off right next to the buoys anyway so it didn't seem to make much of a difference.

Putah Creek was crazy back in the 70's. There weren't any jet ski's back then. Just boats, alot of accidents. I can't imagine it now days. A classmate lost an eye out there when the water sking. The thing that holds the rope to the boat snapped and whip back and ripped his eye out.

At the bridge a few years ago my bro and buddy were walking and my buddy got hit in the face with a full beer can, split his lip. Then the group of about ten white guys with gold teeth tried to fight them.

Re: 4th of July Closures in California

white guys with gold teeth, I wonder if bet or mtv had anything to do with that

I wanna be a ghetto bro, I did not grow up on govt cheese but I idolize the guys that do, I did not have to sell crack to keep up with the jones but I wanna be like that guy and I wanna buy a grill and pop it in my mouth and put a bop in my walk

I like partys as much as the next guy, we have a kid and we ain't dead, campfires, drinking some beer, playing some quitars or a dj so you can dance in the dirt, these are all great things, people who smoke weed are alot mellower then the drunks but when middle class gated community whitey thinks hes ghetto down blackie hes damaged from the start
