HX Deal of the decade?

So a very very long story short. (can elabortate if absolutely desired)

I picked up a BRAND NEW 1996 HX (yes never in the water or even fired up - ouside of the initial dealer fire-up) with a brand new (well 1996) shorelandr trailer for 1K. Not bad eh?

To sweeten it even further I had an old hull and a trailer I cut up a few years ago. A little smoke and mirrors and walla, a new ski and trailer registered to me.

I will never sell this thing.

Not one to typically brag, but I'm usually the guy right after the guy who get's these deals.

I don't even think the hood had been opened for 13 years. It had the new car smell inside. No rubber cracked, no hoses dry. After putting gas in her and pooring a little extra oil on the pistons for good luck. She fired up in 10 seconds and sounded like a mean new engine.

It was covered in 13 years of dust. While washing it off it was like unwraping a present.

Re: HX Deal of the decade?

You deserve to brag about that one. That's like finding a WWII Harley in a crate packed in grease or finding a gullwing Mercedes in some old ladys barn. The only difference is that those are all myths but you have pictures to prove yours. Good job!

Re: HX Deal of the decade?

Jeremy SBT & RxMountain1 - It was basically unclaimed storage. Owner bough a boat space in 97 and this was sitting there when bought (he figured some day someone would come claim it..never did), owner sold the space about 6 months ago and the new owners said everthing must go. Sat inside a garage for 13 years. How I got it was I told him I would deal with the DMV, he tried and they kept running him around...Go here...go there...do this...do that. He was back and forth with them for about 6 months. He was to the point where he just wanted to see the ski gone.
I know it wasn't used for 2 reasons. 1) There was not 1 scratch on the bottom side of the hull. 2) In 96 they put a red loctite gel between the pump housings that squeezed out the sides. After about the first day of riding most of this would wash off. On this ski the bead was still there about 1/8+ all the way around the pump and still pliable. It washed off on Monday when I rode it, as expected.

SflSwampRat - Thanks for the tip, fuel lines are gone. Replaced right after I made sure it ran. They did have 13 year old fuel in them so yes the blue "glue" was all over in them. Unfortunately it ran cherry out of water but would not take a load, so I checked the carbs and they were gummed up. Couple of carb re-builds and she ran all day Monday.

photo4286 - You are too observant. I knew someone would look at that horrible background. That's is my parents neighbors house (directly across the street). Now you know the nightmare my parent have. That family has 3 drivers and 10 (YES TEN) cars...in track housing. All in about the condition you see in the 3. I get regular phone calls about the eye sore all the time...ha.
