Sorry for the Forum Crashes

We're doing all we can guys, but we're getting a ton of traffic and it's causing some problems from time to time. Short term, we've turned off the arcades, ran off those pesky Yahoo slurps and spiders (they show up as a couple of thousand visitors on the site), stopped the surveys, installed the latest versions of MySQL and PHP, and done some other fine tuning of Vbulletin. But some things are not going to go away until we get the new server. For example, we just crashed tonight with too many users at one time on the Vbulletin database driver MySQL. As the Vbulletin tech guy said, "hey, that's a pretty big forum you've got there with a huge database of posts and over 500 people at a time trying to search it".

The good news is the new server is ordered and should be on line next week. I'm not a techy, but it's got quadruple this, and triple that, and double whacha call its. It's brand new and expensive, so it must be fast. And the only thing on it will be PWCToday.com. We're confident these crashing problems will go away when we get it on line.

Again sorry and thanks for your patience,

Greg Pickren

And to think I was ready to chew my ISP for the problems, lol.. I kinda figured this was the problem as I had no problem on getting on other sites. Good to hear new servers are on the way.

Re: Sorry for the Forum Crashes

Greg,

Can you guys please do all users a favor and post a notice on the front page advising of specifically when the site will be down for maintenance and upgrade? That way folks should know what's up and just take a self imposed mini vacation...one less thing for you guys to have to deal with as I know the phone starts ringing there the moment the site eats it.

Heck, I thought maybe I got put on the MU list

...to be so lucky...LOL!

Re: Sorry for the Forum Crashes

just a thought...

how about keeping all topics related to PWC? i do not come here to read other peoples political views, religion ideas, ect.

there are SO many threads on "hows the high gas price going to affect you", religion, political, ect that really have nothning to do with PWC. i see a handful of members who really post a ton, but really have nothing to say. ( PWC related anyway.)

i may be wrong, but this is just my take. this is a PWC site. i come here to read, offer tech advise, buy, sell, or talk PWC.

short rant, done. thank you for your time, the site, your hard work, ect, ect, ect.

zig

Re: Sorry for the Forum Crashes

Thank you for saying so guys. I tried to voice this same opinion a couple of weeks ago and a small group of the natives went all bi-polar on me

Re: Sorry for the Forum Crashes

Yeah, the problem with getting rid of the off topic forum is that all those posts will start capping up the forums that matter to the majority of the users here.
