| Stubborn 550 impeller...removal question What's up guys....on my 89 550....original impeller (it's in nice shape, low time ski, sharpened up the leading edges).....replacing the wear ring (thank you PrickofMis for settin' me up with that solid part)....the prop is being a bear to get off in order to shim it to the new wear ring....anybody ever come across a prop that's been on there since day freakin' one and does not want to come off ? I had a pipe wrench on the thing going hard and she won't budge. I'm told it's normal threads, not reverse threads. Any help ? Maybe some heat ?....if not, who's sellin' C-4 ? What torque did the nips set this thing at in the factory ?

| Re: Stubborn 550 impeller...removal question I have a 90 550sx 93 550sx with the 18 spline props, these are normal threads, I also have an older 85 js550 and another pump off a js550 (the drivshaft fits into the pump shaft not the impeller like on the others) I have been working on my sx pumps the past week or so and took the prop off the 85 js550 pump, to steel an extra shim, and it is reverse threaded. I didn't have a prop tool for the js but had a spare driveshaft that I clamped in the vice between wood w/ a bolt through the whole in the driveshaft to prevent it from spinning. I then took my large adjustable wrench and was able to break it loose.
It did take a liitle torque to get it off, I ended up working it back and forth until it gave since I wasn't sure if it was right or left hand threads.
Some heat from a propane torch and some wd-40 never hurts...
Hope this helps,

| Re: Stubborn 550 impeller...removal question I replaced the impeller on my 82 js 550, i had to use a 4ft breaker bar and some decent force to get it free. Good Luck!
