Rail Turfing

I know there's tons and tons of these threads but most of them don't really have alot of pictures.

I wanted to turf my rails of my 550. Does anyone have any pictures that have done it? I know it makes the ski look nicer than before, but I haven't seen it on a 550. Only on x2's, SJ's, and 650's and up.

Re: Rail Turfing

It's a pain to keep it on. Especially in the rear corners where it drags in the water from steep turns.

You need to sand the rails thoroughly, and underneath as well. You also have to make sure there are NO gaps anywhere in the turf. Start from the top, then glue the sides, then finally glue underneath, and make sure the turf fits in snug without any gaps. The problem is the rails on these have so many sharp edges, the turf tries to straighten out. One thing that would help would be to cut a low spot groove in the turf that corresponds with the edges. This might help make it more flexible and less prone to peeling.

Re: Rail Turfing

Here is just a small experiment section I turfed to show 10mm how good it looks. I dont have the whole ski yet but it is really simple and takes very little time.

Re: Rail Turfing

I didn't hijack your thread kid, I was trying to give you some insightful advice.

And besides, it's a rail with turf on it. We aren't leaving that much to the imagination here. You've seen them before...

I got turf in my 440's rails, u want me to go out and take pictures of it?

Re: Rail Turfing

It's a joke, chill. All I was saying is that I have read all the preps to turfing. All I wanted to see was the pictures...

Re: Rail Turfing

TADA! here is mine, just sanded it a bit and used a heat gun to form it. I was told that cutting it at a 45 and if it peals up to use 5200 adhesive to stick it down

and this one isnt mine, but its cool looking
