| new ski i have a question about fuel lines??? i bought a 1988 jet ski 550 from my co worker super clean but it starts 10 seconds and turns off the fuel lines are all 100% stock even has stock rev box on the fuel lines. i disconnected the main fuel line on the carb i blew into the tank and i hear a leak and its not coming from the check valve sounds like the rubber seal under the pick up hoses but i cant figure it out??? is this why my ski doesnt stay on im for sure there is no pressure in the fuel system because of this leak |

how does it run before it dies? does it die even if your playing with the throttle? how easy is it to start up after it dies?

| Re: new ski i have a question about fuel lines??? rebuild the carb. not even with a rebuild kit if you don't want to mess with it at first, just tear it all apart, clean it, and put it back together. make sure everything looks clean and pretty. these should idle all day if you want them to.

| Re: new ski i have a question about fuel lines??? the carb has a fuel pump built in which supplies the fuel. The tank is supposed to be air tight to keep water out but I don't think it has to be air tight for the engine to run. You could probably take the fuel cap off and it would still start and run no different. |

| Re: new ski i have a question about fuel lines??? Rebuild-clean carb, rebuild preferrably with a new needle and seat. The pressure is not an issue the system does not use pressure to feed the carb, but still check that leak anyway for other obvious reasons like water getting in.

| Re: new ski i have a question about fuel lines??? mine did exactly that when i first got it, just took the carb apart, cleaned everything up, took all the needles out, sprayed carb cleaner in the holes, put them to stock settings, then bam, runs perfect.. |

| Re: new ski i have a question about fuel lines??? just so you know, carb rebuild kits will cost roughly $40-45. Needle and seat will cost another $10. This will save you a lot of hassle come summer. Just as all of us have already learned you need to rebuild as much as possible before summer so that you can spend your days riding rather than wrenching.
