| Help please!!! '88 650sx I was tearing down my 650sx today and as I was taking off the pump, I noticed that the drive shaft had alot of play in it because you could move it up and down real easy while it was still in the pump. I took off the pump to find that the shaft moves even more and it slides back and forth through the hull. Could the bearing be bad in the housing that goes through the hull or is there something else to be concerned with? I do not even know how to go about tackling this issue and I am almost ready to re-assemble the ski. Any info is greatly appreciated!!! |

| Re: Help please!!! '88 650sx The shaft sliding in the hull, that is the way they were built - they just slide through the bearing housing... the loose feeling in the pump is a different issue. Is the impeller shaft loose in the pump, or is it solid feeling? There is some play in the area where the shaft and the impeller come together, but it should not be "alot"... I know that is a general term, but I don't have the manual right in front of me.

| Re: Help please!!! '88 650sx I can not move the impeller in the wear ring at all (just tried). When it was connected to the drive shaft, you could, however, move it up and down a bit. |

| Re: Help please!!! '88 650sx That sounds like you are good then. The drive shaft is a free floating design - like a 550sx or 750sx - it absorbs some shock that way and doesn't put stress on the firewall (like 440 pumps). A little movement of the driveshaft is OK in the impeller - but be sure to check that the splines on the shaft and impeller are not damaged or heavily worn.

| Re: Help please!!! '88 650sx Great news thank you. The splines seem to be in good shape. What a relief haha. |

| Re: Help please!!! '88 650sx It freaked me out because I did the impeller on my 550 and I assumed the 650 had the same kind of set-up. Guess not. |

| Re: Help please!!! '88 650sx Ya the 650 setup is much easier to use than the 550/440 type setup

| Re: Help please!!! '88 650sx Hey here is another question for you guys. On the hull by the pump, there are 2 lines from the pump going into the hull, but there is a third outlet on the hull. Whats that for, nothing is hooked up to it? |
