550 cylinders

So if i were to buy this set from this guy on e bay,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KAW-5...rcraftQ5fParts

Then buy an '80's 550 cylinder, i would be good to go with switching the 550 top onto my 89 440. I heard something about opening up the case or something but I'm not too sure where i saw it. would i have to do anything else. I already have a 550 head and wc pipe. i would need a new carb probably. What else? Thanks in advance.

Re: 550 cylinders

I have cylinders for you that are std bore and in decent shape, need a light hone. Its funny because the pic on that listing is a superjet top end. Your 440 carb and manifold are the same. Im not sure about clearencing the cases though. The pistons and rings that go with the cylinder should be good too and I do have an extra 550 head gasket. LMK

Re: 550 cylinders

The piston port cylinder stud spacing cases are the same for 440 and 550. Only 550 reed cases are different.

Opening up means to open up the counterbore in the top of the case by removing the material up to the edge of the OEM chamfer. It's about 1 mm more all the way around. This is only required with 76mm or bigger pistons. It doesn't mater at all for 440 cylinders (68mm).

What size are the stock pp 550 cylinders? Also, is it critical to use a shaft reinforcement when keeping the 440 pump with the 550 top?

Re: 550 cylinders

HA! I knew I've asked this before! I found all my answers on a previous post I threw up. Stock bore on a 550 is 75mm. Yes, I do need reinforce the bulkhead. Mr. Ski actually filled me in last time I asked. Thanks guys.

List:
-550 cylinders.
-pistons, rings, etc...
-gaskets,
-hull reinforcement.
Am i forgetting anything?
