550 and 650 questions

Alright. So a few questions here. First, I need the bushing assembly for a kawi 650 steering. Its the bushing that goes on top, and underneath the plate that holds the handlebars. And both meet in the middle of the plate. Anyone know where I can find one, or a way to make something. Theres way to much play in the bars, up and down. I believe the 650 and 550 are the same bushing. They look the same. 2nd, my kawi 550 starts and runs, but shuts off after a mintue or two. I have a hose hooked up to it. Can too much water pressure kill the engine? The gas in it is probably form last summer. So that could be a problem. Any other ideas? Seems like when I slowly increase the throtlle, it will rev out. But when I go from idle, to wide, it bogs. Keep in mind, all of this is out of the water, in my fornt yard. Sorry for the long post.

Re: 550 and 650 questions

the idle to wide open thing would be considered "poor throttle response" and most of the times when I have personally ran into this I needed to rebuild the carb. Not neccesarily with a rebuild kit either, sometimes just taking it apart and cleaning everything can make a world of difference.

when running on the hose most say you should not have the hose on wide open, your engine may never warm up if it is getting too much water. watch the pisser, and using a on/off valve mounted near the engine only turn the valve on until the pisser is pissing as much as usual on the water, as in a trickle rather then a full on spray.

remember to never have the hose on while the engine is not running, turn the hose off before shutting engine down and start the engine before turning the water on,.

a poor running ski out of water will only get much worse in the water.

Agreed on fresh gas and the carb cleaning. Its just smart to do anyways, so its a good place to start if you are having problems.

Its not hard to do. Just rebuild it inside a cardboard box so no parts go missing. Also find a diagram (i think mikuni 's website has some).

Re: 550 and 650 questions

Thanks guys. This is what I was planning on doing, but I just wanted to know if there was anything else I should be looking into. And yes, I figured it'd only get worse in the water, thats why I want to get them dialed before I go for the first time. These are my first stand-ups, and I just bought them a month or so ago. So I'm still learning, and trying to figure everything out.
