770 Top End Kit Only: After wholed Piston ???

I'm trying to find out,How many people have had a good running engine after just doing Top end job Only ,replacing a holed piston.
Question is, I just want to do top end kit ,In ski without pulling engine, crank and bearings.
SBT say's you have to pull engine ,crank and bearings.after finding a hole in piston.Aluminum gets into bearings and crank!!
I'm sure the cause of mine was PTO carb leaking ,gas and air, Found , Pea size hole in PTO Piston.
Pls.let me Know your engine status,

If you had a leak you should replace the crank seals. Which means pull the crank. Just my 0.02 usd

It is just good practice to do so. Its only a $20 part so why not do it. That is my theory. How did you determine the leak was at the intake gasket? Did you end up finding a pressure test kit or what?

Re: 770 Top End Kit Only: After wholed Piston ???

I sprayed start -fluid around back of carbs with cover on, engine did race slightly..and I have gas running down carb.
The whole purpose of this post ,Is to find out how many people just replaced pistons and gaskets, and had a good running engine afterwards.

Dank's reply

I do about 50/50 top end to complete engine rebuilds. If you also take care of the fuel system issues then the resuls are very good with just a top if you can be sure the bottom end is in good condition. Sometimes you have to roll the dice

Nah, I still need to purchase / build a pressure test kit. I have been lazy lately. (Plus Forza 3 came out for XBOX360).
