Re: turbo inspection

just have a look at the inducer on the intake side. pop the air filter off. if it looks good there, then the rest should be good.

Re: turbo inspection

Mac knows what he is talking about and he is correct. The other way to look at is if the turbo is wearing out then about the only option you have is to replace it. With that being said, as long as it is making full boost then just run it till wears out. I do not think you are going to do anything that is going to improve the longevity of your turbo besides spraying it with CRC 6-56 or not running extreme amounts of boost. Also from what I have read I cannot see any really strong evidence showing that running boost levels up to about 20-22 PSI (and maybe higher) have any negative effects of the longevity on the turbo. What all this rambling equates to is just run it till you start losing boost and you may never start losing boost. You are not the only one out there running higher than normal boost levels and many people have never had a problem. It is a race machine, push it till it breaks and then let us know what the limit is! haha

Re: turbo inspection

looks and works are two different things. it sounds like a wastegate solenoid issue.

Re: turbo inspection

I hate to disagree, but my turbo started losing boost and the compressor wheel was "pristine". I pulled out the cartridge and the turbine wheel/heat shield were shot.
Some Experts said it was overheated, some said it was mechanical damage.

When I repalced the cartridge it went to 20PSI with the WGS disconnected.

Shawn [Nitro] says the higher boost levels run the RPM far above the maximum safe RPM according to IHI.
