| New Honda Owner New to the forum and new to Honda's. I could not pass up the deal on two new 2007 F12X's, so here I am. Great FAQ at the top and will be sure to read it in more detail. Anything I should keep an eye out on these machines?
What are your thoughts on the extended warranty? I can get 3 extra years on each machine for around $900.00
Still need to get covers, step, and numbers so any info would be helpful. Trying to find custom numbers that will come in a strip as they will be easier to apply. I also need to pickup some CRC 6-56 and the coast guard required stuff. |

| Re: New Honda Owner I don't think you will need any extra warranty-my dealer didn't even ask me, because he never sees any problems. (maybe 1 since the crafts came out, and even though it was outta warranty, honda still took care of it). |

| Re: New Honda Owner 900 each, or 900 total for 2?
If its 900 for both, I'd think really hard about it. But Im the type of person who would prefer the peace of mind, knowing I had one. If something serious were to happen to my skis, I dont feel comfortable fixing them myself.
Having said that, I bought the extended warranty for my Honda, and have never had to use it.

I wish it was 900 for both or it would be a done deal. $900 for each machine. |

| Re: New Honda Owner I bought it for mine , but rocketcoffee makes a good point about the guality of support you will get from your dealer. If your not sure about the dealers support I would lean towards the warranty? $900 seems a little steep. Is that a standard price? |

| Re: New Honda Owner First off please fill us in on some more info.
1.Are you going to be using the skis in salt or fresh water?
2.How will the skis be used.
3.How many hours a year do you expect to put on the skis?
4.Where will the skis be kept?
5.How good are you mechanically?
6.Are you going to modify the skis?
I would HIGHLY recommend not buying the extended warranty. The Honda skis almost never have any problems as long as you keep the CRC 6-56 sprayed on the turbo. The CRC 6-56 is the main thing to remember. Make sure to coat the turbo EVERY day in saltwater and once a week or so in freshwater. You will also want to spray the oil lines, maintenance joint, motor mounts, and underneath the motor as good as possible (there are some oil lines under the motor).
$900 is extremely high for the extended warranty and it is not worth that. The dealers make a lot of money off of selling the warranties. All you need to do is change the oil once a year (or ever 50 hours whichever comes first), pump a few squirts of #2 waterproof grease in the grease fitting with yearly oil change, and winterize the skis according to the owner’s manual. They are really easy to maintain as long as you follow the directions.
-For break in follow the owners manual and you will be fine.
-Do an initial oil change at 10 hours on both and use the Honda regular motorcycle oil. (10w-40)
-Then change the oil again when hour meters hit 50 hours and either switch to Mobil 1 synthetic motorcycle oil or just stay with the regular Honda motorcycle oil and change every 50 hours from then on. It makes it easy cause when the hour meter hits 50, 100, 150 and so own you know when to change. |

The skis will mostly be used by the family. Mostly lake riding, but I will hit it hard when I can.
I am guessing around 50 to 75 hours per year.
The skis will be kept on a Jet Dock or something of the sort.
I am good mechanically and might mod down the road.
Thanks everyone for all the info and feedback. |

#9 | | Guest | Re: New Honda Owner I change my oil every 25-30 hrs.....but that is by choice, but the oil is really black and smells like straight gas after 50 hrs, plus I ride wide open all the time so I change it so frequent. at 30 hrs my Honda synthetic oil is dark brown and does not have a "strong" fuel smell and I have piece of mind knowing I didnt have fuel killing the viscosity of the oil.
I agree with NOT having the warrantee, I agree with everything said but the oil change | |

#10 | | Guest | Re: New Honda Owner turbo engines run really rich so you get fuel in the oil its natural, but fuel breaks down oil over time and reduces viscosity, and someone like me who rides it like he stole it needs to change it every 30hrs, if your like me then you may want to rethink the 50hrs oil change
Good luck with your honda you have made a good buy as long as you maintain it
