F12X - 2002 ECU Diagnostics

Just got my 2002 F12x and found that after I turn it on it beeps twice along w/ warning light and screen flashes and goes off. Don't know where to start... First I bought online CD w/ service manual, still waiting for it and meantime trying to analyze what would those beeps mean? Need your advice, please help!
Also is there is an easy way to do diagnostics or read error codes and what equipment I need to buy to do that? Is it OBD-II complient?
Will auto ODB-II reader works on jetski?

What is the normal shop procedure, is it to go through all sensors or just run some computerized diagnostics?

That sounds like a battery or main relay issue. If not, you can use the SEARCH feature on here and we have posted many times how to pull the diagnostics from the ECM.

hit the start button sooner?.

Mine beeps twice and screen flashes too, when I put the lanyard in. After the screen boots, I hit the start button and drive away. If you wait too long, you have to pull the lanyard and re- insert. But dont hit the start button too soon either..let the screen settle.

Is that what you mean?

I think dav_dman has a good point. We aren't quite sure what you mean. Please explain it a little further.


In order to read codes you will have to use a jumper (i.e. a piece of scrap copper wire ) on a plug located near the oil filter area (can't remember what that plug is called right now). You can buy a reader from Honda but I think it is like 2K or more.

I have the same yr as you and the cd manual sheds a lot of light on reading the codes without a reader.

Its called a msd plug it sits ontop of the exhaust manafold its red with 2 wires in it

isnt it s black connector on the 02, i think the newer ones that need the hand held to read are red..

Thank you guys for lots of useful info. I was able to progress to the point when I was able to start the engine repeatedly and ran it for 15sec, but still get lots of beeping which sounds to me every time different and I'm confused about it... thx for codes info I'll be checking what exactly is failing. But first I noticed that turbo is badly rusted and vacuum thing on it is frozen. and after I tried to open throttle and engine shut off. so, there is definitely a problem in there probably a map sensor... Idle shows: 890 to 910 but should of been 1200! So, it's unable to keep stable 1200 rpm which is controlled digitally and should be precise if I'm not mistaken... Great part is that I was able to see on the gauge that this machine has 94hrs... sounds like it should be Ok inside mechanically... hopefully

probably needs wastegate actuator, solenoid, plugs, fresh 93octane, pull the battery cables off and then put back on to clear codes, in that order.
