F-12 High Idle..

Hello everyone,

I started my Aquatrax today, (F-12) fired right up runs well, I noticed the idle was a little high sound wise.. it was between 1600-1800rpm the manual says It should be around 1200. I let it idle for nearly 1/2 an hour still stayed the same. I'm not sure really what it was last year because I didn't pay attention cause it ran perfect..The manual say's need to be in water for an accurate test of the idleing rpm's well, the water is still frozen so can't do that. I called the Aquatrax dealer to ask their opinion they said has to be in water b/c there is no resistance to the impeller (which makes sense). Again, it runs right away and sounds perfect, any body else agree or your idle runs around this out of the water? Or should it be adjusted? Thank you!

Re: F-12 High Idle..

First off, hopefully you didn't run it on the hose for 30 minutes.... you shouldn't run it more than 10 minutes on the hose.

Secondly, the idle can't be determined unless its in the water. So until you can put it in the water, and confirm its higher than 1200 +/- 100 RPM's then you don't have a problem.

idle is adjustable. Shouldn't be an issue regardless you can adjust it.

Where are getting your info from? I have ran both of my skis longer than 10 mins, many times without any problems. I have always been to let it warm up and not to run too short of time so the plugs won't foul out.

Re: F-12 High Idle..

I run a higher idle than normal due to all of the no-wake areas set up by the Manatee nuts. This way I can make decent speed while passing by the Marine Patrols by not holding on to the throttle. When I am docking, I use neutral and reverse to come in slowly anyway so the high idle doesn't bother me.

Manual.

And 10mins. is plently for it to warm up, actually 5 would be sufficient.

Re: F-12 High Idle..

I can actually tell when its warmed up... the engine will change tune. It obviously doesn't sound like it's running rich anymore, leans out and idles smoother, then a quick touch to the waterbox to feel if its warm. It does this on the water to, if your like me and wait on cold start for at least 5 minutes before giving any throttle.,,, at about the 3 minute mark the engine changes tune and idles out smoother. Pretty sure its the "choke" cutting off, for the lack of better words.
