| Drive shaft bearing My 2004 F-12 has a lot of noise/vibration at low RPM I just had my pump bearings/seals replace and it is much tighter than the old ones, yet the noise is still there. I'm looking at the drive shaft bearing next and it seems like thats where the noise is coming from. Does anyone have the service manual pages on how to replace this? I did a search and don't anything specific about replacing this. I read that an alignment tool is needed. Does anyone have the part # for the tool? Maybe I need to take it to Honda for this one?
Thanks,
Anthony |

| Re: Drive shaft bearing Is this in or out of water?
What do you mean tighter than the old one's?
What is the noise, what does it sound like? Explain it. |

| Re: Drive shaft bearing I mean I had the pump bearings replaced. The low RPM rattle that has always been there since I have owned the ski is still there. When I am above idle things smooth out and it seems fine. I've traced it to the drive shaft bearing and am wondering if anyone with a SM can send me the pages that have how to replace the drive shaft bearing or carrier assy I think they call it. Also what is the part # for the special tool.
Thanks,
Anthony |

Is this "rattle" you speak of when it is out of the water?

| Re: Drive shaft bearing the alining tool is $2500
the good news you wont need the tool
if you going to replace the bering you may want to buy the all carrier (berings included )
but knowing hondas the nice is coming from the housing and prop and even wen you replace will came back very fast
just live the pump alone |

| Re: Drive shaft bearing The rattle is in and out of the water and pretty much just at idle. Once above idle the sound disappears. I have replaced the pump bearings even tho the impeller moved pretty smoothly. With the new bearings installed the pump has less play than it did, but the sound I was trying to eliminate is just as bad as ever. If I replace the whole carrier assy, I don't have to align it?
Thanks for the replys |

| Re: Drive shaft bearing 99% of the time the rattling noise is due to the necessary slack in the male/female splined coupling. Without this slack it would be impossible to get the perfect offset/parallel alignment needed to keep the PTO shaft bearing alive.
You also need to check and see if the little rubber stopper was reinserted into the female spline on the impeller. It is hard to see the little black plug inside the splined socket but will make it rattle worse if it is left out.
