Is it Ok to Run an Updated Stator with Original Cdi

I'm wondering if I can run an updated stator with the original cdi in a SL900?

Also, how can I tell if the stator I have is the updated one or not?

Thanks

Original 1996-1999 CDI and stator are not compatible with the updated versions.

Original with original, updated with updated.

The stator should have a part number on it, possibly along the rim of the backing plate. Also, the updated stators have a few 'fingers' without any coil windings.
