Lots of oil in the engine

OK,I used to work for Porsche and Mercedes but I'm stumped now. I bought this sl780 at a yard sale with a trailer for $450.00 and it didn't turn over. After getting a wiring diagram and swapping the wires in the elec box, it cranked, then nothing. Had a good ground and 12v going to the starter sooooo I bought a starter and installed it today. I also removed the fuel tank and cleaned it but it was good, nothing in it and got rid of the fuel. cleaned the fuel/water separator and flushed the fuel lines.
When I removed the exhaust to replace the starter, there was a lot of oil in the manifold. There was oil on top of the pistons and in the carbs which I removed with a turkey baster. I put it all back together with new fuel and also had the muffler out because the hose going to the outlet was collapsed (big hose). I cranked for a bit and then got oil coming out of the exhaust pipe and the plugs were oil fouled and I do have spark. tia

Re: Lots of oil in the engine

if u didn't address the carbs it is prob not getting fuel just oil from the oil injection pump ,, also the previous owner may have dumped oil in the motor for a corrosion block .. make sure it's getting fuel ,, by looking down the carbs as you crank you should see something happening fuel wise

Re: Lots of oil in the engine

OK, update: I removed the carbs and intake with the reeds.I removed about 1 1/2 qts oil from the block. I cleaned the carbs, ordered fuel line and clamps and the gaskets just got here today. I got the fuel lines from fuellines.biz and Marty is great. I'm going to test the fuel pump before I put it all back together. Where's a good place to get a rebuild kit for the triple pump? It's the stock one or should I get new and where's the best deal? Everything is well lubricated.

Re: Lots of oil in the engine

You can find the triple pump rebuild kits on eBay for some pretty good deals. Go ahead and rebuild it while you are working on it, you wont regret it. Might want to clean and rebuild your on/off/reserve valve while you are working on the fuel system.

It's alive!

So I got my gaskets, fuel line, and stuff. Reinstalled the intake and while torquing, 2 of the bolts kept turning so I had to helicoil them and all went smooth after that. I replaced the fuel pump and all the fuel lines and added an inline filter. I spritzed a little fuel in the carbs and what a smoke screen! But it is alive and it sounds well. I ordered some other stuff today from Polaris today like the battery cover and exhaust hose so it should be done soon.

Maybe when it stops raining and I get the rest of the parts like the exhaust hose and the bilge plug (very important).
