'99 1050 SLX Intermittent Ignition

Been having some issues with my 1050 this summer. Determined it is not fuel issues when we put a timing light on each of the plug wires and verified its loosing ignition. It never drops more than 1 cylinder at a time. Its not just one cylinder either, it jumps around all 3 of them. Low end it holds steady, but starts dropping off around mid range and top end. Also, it gives this problem when the ignition is cold, so its not like the ignition is getting warm and breaking down. Any help would be greatly appreciated in a starting point in troubleshooting this issue. I have opened the box and verified all connectors are tight and sealed, everything looked fine.

Thanks,
Andrew

Re: '99 1050 SLX Intermittent Ignition

Check whether that machine still has the original ignition system (CDI and stator). The CDI part number will tell you.

Polaris issued an Ignition System Update Kit for the 1996-1999 900 and 1050 engines.

If yours still has the original ignition, then the best option is to buy and install the correct update kit. It doesn't cost much more than the stator or CDI alone, and the update will make the system much more reliable.

Re: '99 1050 SLX Intermittent Ignition

Hey WFO Speedracer, sorry its taken me so long to reply to you. Just have been incredibly busy here these past few months and have not had time to get to it. I went ahead and winterized it before it got to cold and it might be sitting till the beginning of the summer. I am going to try some of the trouble shooting techniques and tips that Keith447 has put up on greenhulk first before I make a decision.

Thank you guys!!
Andrew
