2004 MSX 150 oil change

Hi, my friend's sister is new to the whole watercraft sport. She just bought a 2004 polaris msx 150. We did the normal run through and in doing so, noticed that the oil did not register on the dip stick. (we now know this is right) but at the time, thought we better add oil and we did. Of course, when started (out of the water but with a hose connected), the oil shot out the vent hole and we shut it off. We then restarted it and it would run and then rev and repeat. Could there be something wrong? How can I drain all the oil and how much do I put back in?

Re: 2004 MSX 150 oil change

The oil level on the Weber engines in the MSX 110 and MSX 150 is tricky. The markings on the dipstick are misleading, and if you fill the oil to 'full', that is actually overfull, and the excess oil ends up contaminating the sensors in the air intake tract.

When started out of the water, always put it into Reverse before starting. Otherwise, the engine can over-rev, since there is no water load on the impeller.

Also, do not start the garden hose water flow until after the engine has been started. Shut the water off first, then stop the engine.

Maximum run time on the hose is two minutes. Any longer and you risk damaging the drive shaft and impeller shaft seals, which will overheat when run without the hull being in the water.
