| Re: 1996 SLTX 1050 Carb question another fuel issue... ok, don't go buying the carb kits just yet.. check to see if you have the grey fuel lines.. if you do then you need to go and buy about 20' of the black fuel line from napa or wherever.. start by removing the lines one by one from the tank to the water seperator, etc. remove the fuel selector switch and clean that out with carb cleaner. take off your water seperator and make sure its nice and clean through all orifices. Pull your carbs and completely dissassamble. check the fuel screens for clogging (very common cause of lean condition). Clean with carb cleaner until its nice and white inside and out. Check all diaphrams for cracks, wear, and holes (hold up to light). Take apart the fuel pump which is built into the carbs, make sure there is no gunk on the sealing surfaces for the check valves, if there is carefully remove the flappers and clean with a toothbrush with carb cleaner. if all components check out good then you can reassemble and give it a shot, keeping a close eye on the piston wash in case you are still lean. Checking popoff and all that is a good idea but may be too much for you at this point. $1000 is a bit steep, I typically charge $200 for a fuel system upgrade for the tripples.. a bit extra if they need carb components. |
