1994 sl 750 running lean

Hi, Im new to the forum and Im out of ideas. I recently purchased a 94 750 sl. It hadn't run in 3 years. I got it to fire up but idled really high and it throttled up from half to full but would not idle lower. I pulled the carbs, cleaned them, replaced the fuel diaphragms and ran it again. At this point, I was running so lean, I couldn't touch the throttle without it stalling out. No adjustment would help. I replaced the stock fuel pump with a mikuni triple outlet 35 liter per hour unit and now when i hit the throttle it just bogs and fuel spits out of the high jets on the middle and back carb. I don't know what to do and I need help. PLEASE!! I bought this thing in May for a family vacation. That came and went and I just want to ride it once before the lake freezes over.

what settings are you using on your high and low screws? did you change the fuel lines? is the restrictor in the return line?what type of fuel lines are on it?

Im running 1/4 in fuel line. I've replaced most of the lines. anything that was soft or cracked was replaced. I also replaced the fuel filter and the intake screens in the tank.

Re: 1994 sl 750 running lean

sorry i didn't answer the whole question. I set the carbs to the factory settings. 1/2 turn out on the idle jets. 11/4 turns out on the first carb high jet. 3/8 out on the middle carb and 7/8 turns out on the high jet closest to the PTO. tied it up in the lake with these setting. it would idle but only bog when given throttle. tried turning the high screws out a 1/4 turn at a time but no success. returned the high jets to factory setting and started turning the low jets out 1/4 at a time with no result. the more combinations i try the more confused i get. at most, I get fuel spitting out the high jets but mostly i just make it miss at idle. but i have never gotten it to throttle up

On each carb check to be sure on each low and high speed adjuster, you have an O-ring then washer then spring then washer? Never seen a carb squirt fuel out of itself, usually in and down.

Also make sure you dont get confused as to wich is high speed screw (closer to rear of ski) and low speed ( closer to front of ski) I did this once and burned a hole in mag piston.

Re: 1994 sl 750 running lean

Thanks for replying. I have not touched the ski in a couple of months as it is winter here. However, I didn't solve the problem before it was winterized in November. To answer your question, I did inspect the needles and their seats. They appeared to be in good condition. Now I have to admit to my less than expert abilities. I did remove the carbs and inspect/clean them and replaced the diaphragms. Unfortunately I do not know anything about popoffs. Couldn't even tell you where to look or what to look for. If you would be so kind, I'd love to get some advice on this. Im excited to use the ski this summer but I break into a cold sweat knowing that Im still out of ideas on how to get it out of its lean condition. thanks again
