Dont buy a 4 stroke!

to all future 4 stroke owners.. keep your 2 strokes.. DO NOT buy a 4 stroke.. or even worse waste money on a stx 15f. i have had a kawi 2 stroke zxi for years.. not one issue... decied to buy a 4 stroke 2007 stx 15f... biggest peice of junk ever produced.. wont run correctly at all... stalls out.. wont build full power.. bucks/back fires... absolute trash.... im sure the " kawai good times" warranty will find a way to back out and screw me over... i should have kept my zxi... please dont make yet another mistake i have made...buying a 4 stroke jet ski.. even fuel injection for that matter.. carbs run much much much much better.

Re: Dont buy a 4 stroke!

look I am with ya as far as hanging on to two strokes, but your experience with your 15F is not typical. What is the story behind your '07? Did the seller say it ran good when you bought it? Has anyone worked on it?

And if you are saying a ZXI is the high standard of skis, I want some of what you've been smokin. It must be good stuff.

Re: Dont buy a 4 stroke!

I bought it from a major ski dealer up here.... They said they tank tested it, did compression tests, thrust tests and a pdi. Everything came back perfect.... And it runs like ****.. I had a yamaha gp1200r that ate 3 motors in 20 hours.. Blowing crank seals.. Bad head gaskets.. Ect . People said that wasn't the norm either.. Here I go again just now it will be worse with a 4 $troke... The zxi 1100 ran fantastic.. Never 1 issue .. My gp1200.. Junk.. Seadoo xp.. Junk .. Kawasaki 15f... Junk. Stay away from 4 strokes they are garbage, they will cost u huge$$$$ to fix.

The 15f has 11hrs from the Kawasaki loaner program to the mass state police unit last summer.

Re: Dont buy a 4 stroke!

Iv'e only had my 2-smokers for a year, prior to that i never owned a jetski much less a even worked on a weedeater motor. In hind sight i'm SOOOOOO glad i went with the older model jetskis. I figured going into this that if i was going to own a pair of PWCs i'd have to work on them myself. To HeII with letting a dealer/shop maintence them for me. At first glance it looks daunting to look inside a PWC but they windup being more or less simple & straight forward to work on...that is the non-injected versions anyway. When i look at a fancy 4-stroke i can't help but picture the same type of motor/computer thats in my Mazda 3 getting drowned in the water = BOOOM or at the least alot of $$$$$$$ to fix...that i can't do myself. Nope...no 4-stroke for me.!!

Re: Dont buy a 4 stroke!

Let us know what your dealer says about the ski. This is my 7th year riding my 15F since 2004 and have had ZERO problems. I really don't think the cause of your 15F problems is any of following:
> Because it is a 4-stroke.
> Becuase it is fuel injected.
> Because it is Kawasaki

The most probable culprit is how that ski was maintained and ridden and by who. Loaner unit to the state police?! At least your ski starts and runs (poorly though as you described). If a 2-stroker was loaned to the same state police, I bet it would not even crank now because rod is sticking out of case or seized up.

It is what it is. It might be as simple problem as fouled plugs or a corroded ISC valve or TPS adjustment. Let's try to fix the problem. We are here to help you.
