95zxi pop off pressure anybody

i cant get these carbs to work right even though i set them up by the book, does anyone know better carb specs? they will barely idle but when you pull wot, the engine will die from starving of fuel. i need lower pop off but dont want to go too low, anybody have anything? i think i set them up for 17psi. ski is all stock

Re: 95zxi pop off pressure anybody

cam, 17 is pretty low, especially if you are running a stock F/A. these should be kehin carbs correct? kehins pop off is typically super high. you need to raise your pop off. if it is a stock motor, and you have the carbs jetted to stock specs, N&S, etc and you are still having a lean problem, i would say you have internal carb issues. blockage, etc.

the only time you lower pop off is if you changed the intake track of the fuel system. ie, open element flame arrestors, removed chokes, etc where you would have a weaker carb signal, and need the carbs to pop off sooner / easier.

hope this helps. zig

Re: 95zxi pop off pressure anybody

maybe it was 27 psi?? whats happening is, i rebuilt the carbs, set the carbs per clymers manual that i have, and engine (which is brand new) will barely idle and when you give it gas or pin the throttle, it will die. so i removed the carbs to double check everything again.

so i double checked everything and everything is in order, cleaned fuel pickup, fuel selector, carbs again and same thing, wont run when you give it gas. has fresh gas and carbs are full of fuel when i removed them. the only thing i can think of is too high of pop off.

now im testing them w/o flame arrestors on but even when i put them on, it does the same thing. it will begin to run lean at idle and increase rpm until it dies or either runs away and the kill switch wont cut it off. so its got to be super lean, too high of pop off.

new sbt engine, new reeds, carbs just rebuilt, case/water block off, oil pump block off, premix 40:1, stock ski, stock flame arrestors, ski is very hard to start, have to choke to death and 3/4 choke to keep it running.

Re: 95zxi pop off pressure anybody

several keihins have more than one, take a look here: http://216.37.204.203/Kawasaki_OEM/K...pe=13&A=88&B=4 you can see that there are two pilots and one main. most later model keihins had two.

anyway, i guess i just start dropping pop off down and see what happens.

Re: 95zxi pop off pressure anybody

interesting, i have about 4 keihins here an all of them have one pilot. I know quads an motorcycles run a jet someimes for the choke, but havent come across a dual pilot jet carb on a ski. Well anyways, goodluck bro, hope you figure it out. have you done a leakdown? sounds like its sucking air from what you described as far as the idle goes up an up til it dies.

Re: 95zxi pop off pressure anybody

Maybe you have the pilot jets in the wrong place. one is for idle, and the other is a mid jet. the parts breakdowns on kawisaki.com might show where they go.
