FX1 Pump Conversion...

I just got a FX1 that is 100% stock. I am wondering what pump is the best to put on this ski. I have heard that there is Kawasaki 650 pump, a Yamaha 650 pump, and a 144mm pump, exe. I am wondering exactly what pump is the best to use (make, model, exe). I am also wondering what parts are needed to do this conversion.

If anyone has any exp. in this let me know.

Thanks,

Re: FX1 Pump Conversion...

You have two options for pumps. The kawi 650 pump which is a 140mm pump or a yamaha 144mm pump. The kawi pump mod u will need a 900zxi driveshaft and support bracket for the driveshaft. Both will require grinding on the hull to get the pumps in there. I'm putting a 144mm pump in mine, some say the kawi pump is an easier mod than the yamaha pump but idk. I personally couldn't see puttin a kawi pump in an fx1.

Re: FX1 Pump Conversion...

Yep, those are your two main options. Motoman is very anti Kawi pump. I went the Kawi route myself. IMO the Kawi pump is more affordable, easier/less expensive to replace parts if anything breaks/wears down the road, and takes a little less grinding on the hull (pump shoe area). You can also use the X-2 trim if you go the Kawi route.

Either one will make a huge improvement over the stock pump and it really comes down to preference.

I did a write up when I was doing my swap, it's in this section somewhere.

Re: FX1 Pump Conversion...

Judging by the size of the pump, it would be a PITA to fit it in the FX cavity without major hull work

Re: FX1 Pump Conversion...

I figured that.... but that doesn't seem like anything that people around here would shy away from.

I just wonder.... enough power to load the 155? If so... you would be moving a LOT of water for a standup.... That is where the thought began. I can't imagine that the members of this forum would be afraid to attempt such a build if it reaped large enough benefits.

Re: FX1 Pump Conversion...

The 155 would be overkill. Plus they're fvckin' pricey. Not too mention it is way too big under there. You would have to fab up a rideplate like J said. The 140 or 144 is plenty sufficient. If anything get a skat magnum pump
