Thumbs up FX-1 Hood Seal

Since I got my FX1, I've been ****ing with a crushed factory hood seal. The hood had been installed over it, and it's taken a long time to get it to stand back up. I've been storing it with a rope tucked in between the hood and seal to try and straighten it. This has worked wonders, but I still have to drag my finger tip around it sort of like mounting a tire to get the hood on.

Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Any suggestions other than trimming it down?

Would a brand new one from Yamaha work, or will I still have to pry the hood on?

Thanks

Re: FX-1 Hood Seal

I have had that problem.

a new one will stand up.......you will not have to deal with the hassles of the rubber stuck down.....will be able to install hood and go.

Everyone I have ever owned has done this. If you replace it and stay anal about making sure that it goes on right, it will last, but the moment you get in a hurry and lock down the hood it starts all over.

I have had this prob on 3 out of the 4 i have owned. The 4th was a fluck and was perfect. That reminds me i have to get rid of my window weather stripping and get a new seal. Thanks for the reminder

Re: FX-1 Hood Seal

The rope trick does work well. Use the biggest piece you can stuff in there and then heat it up with a heat gun (careful) or hairdryer to make it more plyable and to aid in reforming and "training" it keep that form. Let it sit for seveal hours (out of the sun)
Its just something you have to be cognizant of and stay on top of.

Re: FX-1 Hood Seal

l kept on having a problem with crushing the rear of the seal when putting the hood on.What works for me is setting the rear of the hood first(next to tray) and then setting the front down. Then just adjust the sides before clamping it down.l don't have as much trouble now.Don't know if that will help ya...

Re: FX-1 Hood Seal

Cool, sounds like I'm not alone on this. The rear near the tray is definitely the worst part. I think I'll do a new seal after I paint.

Hey Derk! what's up with that FX1 pipe you had for sale? I was all set to buy that a couple months back. Still got it?

Thanks for the info guys!
