SJ 701 bogging AFTER a days riding!?!?!?!

Ok heres the deal...

Started off yesterday..Pulled the ski out of the garage which had been flushed and cleaned after weds surf ride (which was mechanically perfect). She fired right up yesterday, but when I went to give it a bit of a rev it started to bog..and made a sound like the carbs were totally choking out...With feathering you could get the revs up high like normal...

I replaced the plugs and it seemed to run fine...Dragged her all the way up to matanzas inlet and dropped it in the water..Instantly the bog was back, made riding impossible..The hesitation was somewhere around 15% throttle, and if you feathered it to around 40% you could get her to rev out..

So, yesterdays ride was RUINED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Came home yesterday and ripped out the carbs..I pulled the sides with of the dual 38's with the "R" on it and there was some water, grit/sand, and some rust particles from a corroding screw. I cleaned it all out with rubbing alcohol and Qtips the best I could and put them back together...
THen pulled the other side (with the fuel pump) on both and cleaned them as well...Found some water and grit as well...

Back to matanzas today, she ran PERFECTLY...ripping it up all day in the surf...When I first put her in the water she seemed to bog for about 15 seconds, then cleared her throat and was perfect for the rest of the day...

Got home, flushed for 15 minutes, washed engine compartment etc....Went to fire her up one last time to blow out any water and THE BOG IS BACK!!! with the exact same symptoms as yesterday....

whats up with my carbs? am I getting water in them while flushing or did it just take an hour to settle from riding (the drive home), and then clog things up...

stock pipe with stock 62T FA, 1 screen remaining....

I'd recommend taking the gas tank out, and completely draining it. Then take the carbs apart and cheam them (did you chean the tiny filters in the carbs?).

Reassemble it with a new external fuel filter and new fuel lines.

i would say you have a fuel leak some where
could be your needle and seat leaking
could be your fuel pump diaphrams are broken or worn
this is causing the fule pressure in your carbs to drop while it is sitting and when you start you have to get the fuel pressure back up before it will carb cleanly

why drain the entire gas tank? easy to do right now, its almost totally empty..Yes, I did clean the filters in the carbs....Only thing in there were a tiny hair/fiber in one..

What about all that junk behind the "R" plate, hows it getting there? thru the throat of the carb?

I did blow out all the fuel lines yesterday when I did this, but what I dont understand is why did this happen AS SOON AS I GOT HOME? This was AFTER 1.5 tanks this afternoon!

I pretty sure its not a problem with fuel pressure, but I sure as hell am not dissasembling the carbs after each ride in the surf....

when I pulled the fuel line off the "fuel in" of the carb, I get a nice stream of fuel that shoots out the line..Then, if you vent the tank it stops shooting out...

carbs are out right now, going to pull them apart in a few minutes....I KNOW there is going to be water under the "R" faceplate...Ill clean it out and it'll run like a champ...For how long is the question..Going grocery shopping tonite, going to get a piece of tupperware and try that.....

Because there's water in it

If you're still running the stock venting system on the tank, unscrew the bottom of the white plastic container.

How is Matanzas after the 'Canes? I've ridden Vilano many times but Matanzas has always seemed a little small. No, I didn't wait for the tide change.

What is optimal timing? From 2 hours before high tide to high tide, or what?
