GP1300 exhaust temperature sensor alarm

Hi All,

I have an 07 GP1300R with 103hrs on it, and last weekend after long straight runs in the ocean, I got the exhaust temp alarm. I stopped, and took off again and it came up again (about 65kph for 5 mins). Then was OK for a while. On the way back from jumping, I got the alarm again, and also check engine light.

I have looked at the sensor and the wiring looks OK. I will check continuity while bending the wires tonight.

What should I check if I get this alarm? What can be the cause?

I do not have a D plate installed, it is all stock.

Thanks
Skyfox.

possible broken cat converter, you can pull the temp sensor on top of the pipe, right after the converter, if that sensor is bent, the converter is bad..they roll around in the pipe when they come apart..

That sounds spot on.....makes you wonder how much debris got sucked back in to the mill. The downfall of a two stroke, Ouch!

Re: GP1300 exhaust temperature sensor alarm

Yep the sensor is bent and the cat converter is in the muffler rolling around. I'm putting a d plate in next week. What resistor value will replace the sensor? Does anyone know the resistance of the sensor cold? I think mine is broken 1.5M ohm but given I'll bypass it that should be ok.
Thanks

Re: GP1300 exhaust temperature sensor alarm

Hi AndyGPR

I've got a 2003 GP1300 which has just had a d-plate installed by the lake, the broken CAT damaged the sensor down by the coupler and they want £280 or $420 to put a new one in, after seeing this post I've told them to leave it.

If I cut the wires to the sensor and solder in a 10K resistor will this make the ski work in terms of not cutting out and having the temp alarm at full RPM? If it does then I'll have to FedEx some beers over to you for saving me so much money!
