There is only one reputable honda dealer in my area so when I was looking for a trailer I wound up calling a sea-doo dealership....the guy scoffed at the fact that I wanted to get an aquatrax (and of course tried to sell me a used seadoo) and basically pointed out how sea-doo is the big name in PWCs (along with Yamaha in distant second) that no one sells honda's, no one rides hondas, and they make a good lawnmower but maybe not a good pwc....blah blah blah.
So what do you guys think of the hondas? My understanding thus far is that the sea doo will handle big water a little better (due to hull design), is bigger/heavier but will have more hp (215/255+) than the honda and will be faster (in a straight line anyway...maybe in a curvy line too, i dunno). Have you or someone you know sold a honda to buy a seadoo?
The GTX Limited he showed me today was pretty nice (a depth finder?! how cool is that?) and I am looking to get a 3 seater in addition to what will probably be an R12x so tell me why I might not want it to be an F12x but instead make it a sea-doo 3 seater... |
First, how much do you want to spend, and what are you priorties for a pwc?
I previously owned 2 hondas; R12X & F12X. Both were very reliable, easy to use and maintain, and get good fuel economy. One of the best features of the dash I liked....a clock. There are few performance parts available and the suppliers are honest business people....they own Hondas too. Prices on leftovers are really good right now. The F15X is superior to the older Hondas, and in my view, superior to SeaDoos....with the exception of the new SeaDoo RXT-X 260.
Basically, the R12X, a 2 seater, is the sports car of pwc's. The F12X, a 3 seater, is like a touring car. The R is a dry ride, but cannot handle rough water at speed. The F is a wet ride, but is a better ride in the rough.
The GTX you mentioned, has a better shaped hull for rough water, and has a fairly dry ride. The Hondas will out maneuver the GTX or any Seadoo 3 seater. The R12X in stock form is faster than a stock GTX, the F12X slower. There are hundreds of speed parts available for SeaDoos, & the suppliers are also owners and honest business people too! To date, my RXT-X's have been very reliable and fast. Stock speed with 4 gallons fuel netted 70 mph, gps. Same ride as the GTX (same hull design).
The new Yamaha's are very good too.....but the reverse lever is on the right (WTH).
