Re: Thoughts on head gasket

There are people on this forum who say they've successfully re-used a head gasket once... Personally, even though I'm a tremendous cheapskate myself, I don't re-use head gaskets...

Re: Thoughts on head gasket

I NEVER reuse any gasket. It is kinda like reusing a condom. I don't do that either.

Re: Thoughts on head gasket

yah, they say that even if u dont run the motor, that once the gasket is installed and then removed, new one.

Though if u gota go so cheap u cant spend 85$, u can spray both sides with copper spray gasket and should probably be ok.

I would be more worried about replacing that head bolts as they are stretch bolts, and I mean STRETCHED. its like 30 ft, lbs, then 120 degress, then like another 90!

Why go cheap, and then just have to redo it all again, or cause more damage? Do it right the first time.

Re: Thoughts on head gasket

How much is your time worth to you when it comes to redoing the thing? You wanna be in the middle of the lake when it blows? It isn't like it will plan to blow up in your driveway. The law states it will break at the worst time possible at the hardest to reach place. As Clint Eastwood would say "You got to ask yourself one question. Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?"
