new GTX 155 :) to strain or not to strain?

We just bought our first NEW jetski. Its a 2009 GTX 155 left over. So what should I do to her to keep her running for years to come? I've heard of guys putting the Goco Strainer on IC units but would it make sense to put it on a non IC/SC unit? What else should we put on her? Bilge pump?

Thank you everyone

I dont bother with the strainers but if you ride in dirty water it cant hurt to fit one there are 3 small holes in the exhaust that could block but I havnt seen it yet.
Bilge is good insurance but not vital.
Just wash it and spray the engine with wd40 or similar to keep corossion away and store with the seats off to let it dry out. Fog the motor when sored long term otherwise the 4 strokes are low maintenance

A GTX 155 is NA... Shouldn't have an IC, you shouldn't need a strainer.

there are very small water feed holes in the exhaust system that can block so a strainer can be a good idea in dirty water so not just for intercoolers.

Seriously dude? I think it would have to take something the size of a small pebble to block those holes. They aren't really that "small".

And no, mine aren't drilled out.

you would have to answer this one yourself, meaning that if you run in a heavy eelgrass area or your inland waterways are loaded with plantlife certain times a year...
Most weeds/plant life get turned into coleslaw when going the thru the pump, you would have had to go thru a bed of grass to really jamb up those large 3/4 hoses.
Speaking from experience, the groco strainer is a good piece when running an IC.
Before I installed one, the bay was loaded with eel grass, sometimes you just run into a heavily covered area and whoops the high temp alarm went off, and it is a huge PITA to clean out...
after that day, I avoided Barnegat bay like the plague during those times.
Even running on the river I could see small sand and silt particles in the strainer cup, but nothing to really cause concern IMHO...

also to consider with installing the strainer you have more places for water leaks, I`m not sold on plastic fittings, plastic housing, and an O ring to seal. this creates more places for water to leak. so installed properly with thread sealing paste (not teflon tape), proper good full flow fittings, good SS hose clamps, you should be good to go, with frequent checks, just like looking over anything else on your machine.
There will be some that argue they`ve had no issues with the plastic fittings, but to each his own...
also: what if your cleaning the strainer and you crack the plastic cup, or fudge the O ring seal??? then your beat while out on the water or at the dock, unless you have a spare set-up in your storage compartment...
these are just some of the things to think about...
Just my opinion, your machine is non IC stock, I woulnd`t bother unless your riding area is inundated with leaves, pine needs, eelgrass etc...
it`s your call! hope this helped you...

the key to longevity is maintenance! keep the inside and outside of the ski clean, read up on your owners manual and get to know the ski. Talk to it frequently and she will treat you nice!...lol...
If you are mechanically inclined, then you could save yourself some money by doing your own oil changes, plug changes, etc, etc... enjoy and good luck!

The holes in the i/c are not that small either its an acumulation of crap that eventually causes a blockage.
The holes are small and I have unblocked a couple on 3ds and a 4stroke at the shop and we dont ride in dirty water round where we are.
As I said wouldnt bother unless in very dirty waterways.
I would be more concerned with the internal corrosion in the air section of the intercooler I have had 4 of them cleaned out on rxpx's due to the inside being so coroded and furry.

I also agree with pale rider the plastic junk usually found with the strainers dont give me alot of confidence.
