'06 GTX 155hp Normal Fuel Consumption

Hi,

I am new to this forum and this sea-doo as well. I know that it depends on many factors, but can someone give me a ball park idea as to how many GPH a normally aspirated 4TEC engine burns? Also, distance.

We will be taking out our new to us '06 GTX this weekend, and I wanted to have an idea. Not going far from launch area, but eventually I will like to do longer runs.

Thanks in advance,

Juan

Re: '06 GTX 155hp Normal Fuel Consumption

Not exactly but I can give you my 215 s.c. experience. ( 2 machines )

Mine holds 15.9 gallons and that's probably the " safe fill limit " of the tank. I also add a gallon or so up into the neck as it's well burnt off before any issue arises.

Being said; we have no problem playing all day, towing and cruising. We have had to really work at it and still end up at a quarter of a tank by days end. That's about 1.5 to 2 GPH and that's good.

Consider this , my old ski boat had a 115 E- rude ( remember those guys? ) and when we went skiing, we were using around 13 gph. ( 2 guys, 2 dolls, food, drinks, ice, toys and a wannabe in the water 75' back )

That help ?

Re: '06 GTX 155hp Normal Fuel Consumption

Hi T2000,

It does help. I am coming from a boat with a fuel injected 4.3L V6, and I would say that on average I was burning 8GPH while cruising at 30MPH on GPS. We are going out tomorrow, so I am going to start measuring the fuel consumption then.

Thanks for the info.

Juan

Your welcome, Some other points, try to travel in pairs especially far from shore and especially this weekend double check all your safety gear and papers, deputy dawg will be out in force and finally, read the caution in the OM about towing a dead ski. There is a reference to the machine flooding if you tow it faster than "x" cause the engine is off.......

Have fun!!

I can burn off a tank off in 2 hours with 215 hp RXP. If I idle along at 40mph it is much better...who's goig to do that though. These things eat gasoline just like a two stroke. My JT1500 can suck dry just as fast at 10GPH burn rate with WOT (60mph) and I'd think a 155 GTX would be similar. I've done 100+ mile trips but that's about it.

Re: '06 GTX 155hp Normal Fuel Consumption

WOT specs of the non-SC engine is ~10.9gph...not many of us stay at WOT all day...filled tank yesterday and pulled the kids for a couple of hours on the tube...I don't think I used three gallons...fuel guage still reading full tank. I also have a 200hp Evinrude on my 21' Aquasport...there is no comparison on the fuel economics.....my in line fuel flow meter averages around 15gph and less than 1mpg....it has a 100g tank...double ouch at the fuel pump. The positive of this beast...I can go 25 miles offshore and carry 12 scuba tanks.

Re: '06 GTX 155hp Normal Fuel Consumption

I generally ride <2 hours continiously and then refuel at 2-3 bars (30-35 bucks). While I may not have hit the top speed all the time the throttle spends alot of time touching the handlebars. Today I rode gently with a lady on the back for 2 hours and stayed under 45mph-fuel economy was way better, a first for me. It's still a most uneconomical mode of transportation regardless of how we try to justify it. I rated it close to a light utility helicopter. At least they burn 10-20 gph but fly at over 110mph.

I'm just honest about what I burn 4 stroke PWCs are a pig on gas but worth every cent! 750 pounds is not much weight compared to a boat with an outboard motor and cargo room!

Re: '06 GTX 155hp Normal Fuel Consumption

My ski is new so I'm still breaking it in, which means I haven't gone WOT yet and I've been babying it. Also, fuel economy should improve a bit after I get some hours on it. I burn about a full tank in 3-4 hours worth of running time with two people on it. It seems to be improving a bit, but I was actually surprised how much fuel this new ski burns compared to my old 2 strokes. I didn't really travel any distance on the two strokes and they didn't have fuel gauges [that worked longer than one season], so maybe that is part of the discrepency as well.
