I've officially joined the 4-cycle group!

Just today tested and purchased a 2007 VX Deluxe with 83 hours and its alum Tritin trailer for $4900. Has boarding step. Ultra clean looking inside and out. Runs very smooth and quiet compared to the 2-cycle Raiders I already have. Hope to ride a fair amount this week (weather permitting) to confirm my choice, but of all the different units immediately available, this was definitely the best selection. Price may have been slightly higher than I would have liked, but I felt if I did not buy it, the next person in line certainly would have.

Only thing missing was that the owner could not locate the manual. Any recommended source to download? He has been using Mobil full synthetic oil.

I hope to buy another 4-cycle this spring, perhaps my ideal FX HO Cruiser for me alone to ride! Now the wife says get serious in selling the Raiders.

Hey congrats! Here's where you can find the owner's manual if that's what you are looking for: http://www.yamaha-motor.com/waverunn...r_manuals.aspx

Re: I've officially joined the 4-cycle group!

Just Another Payment,
Thank you for the link. Downloaded and read the Owners Manual. Got a little confused on oil capacity numbers listed, Manual gives a little over 2 quarts engine capacity, then gives a little over 4 quarts as total capacity. I am assuming that means the recirculating oil tank + engine requirement. Guess I also need to get the service manual to understand these maintenance hints better.

Waterhog,
No pictures tonight and the rain is setting in for next few days, suggesting I won't have pictures for awhile. However it is the standard dark blue color for this model and looks no different than slowstang305's picture. Maybe in the spring I can get a bikini clad model to give the pictures a little life.

Re: I've officially joined the 4-cycle group!

David....welcome to 4 stroke ownership!

The oil capacity figures.........during an oil change, only around half the oil is changed. This is all that can be removed with the motor in place.
These motors run a dry sump system, & have a relative high oil capacity for a 1052cc unit.
Alot of us on here carry out oil changes more frequently then the 100 hrs or 12 months asked for. Mine gets changed every 30 hrs or so, which works out at 3 times a year for the hours I do.
I get next to no oil consumption on my FXHO & I believe this is in part down to the more regular oil changes.

Re: I've officially joined the 4-cycle group!

While I can't vouch for the Yamaha as I own a Kawasaki, Just measure the amount of oil you suck out of the extractor. My oil extractor has measurements on the side and I pour it the amount I take out plus a little for the filter.

Good luck on the 4 stroke, my STX-15F uses about 1/2 to 1/3 the fuel my GP1200 does.
