4 strokers??

I've been looking at sitdown for pulling kids around a lake and rec riding. I and am considering 4 or 2 stroke but know nothing about 4 stoke jet skis. How do they work if they get tipped over having oil in a case? From what i have read they era not as fast a 2 stroke but speed isn't what im after just power to pull skiers, kneeboard or whatever. I found a Yamaha VX for sale and did a little research and they sound like a reliable ski, but wasnt sure how 4 strokers compare. So give me some advice on on a good Yamaha or Kawasaki ski for rec use. Thanks.

Re: 4 strokers??

A four stroke jet ski is your best choice for a family ski the VX110 can carry three people, you don't need to check the oil level, they are quite, and has the power to pull a skiier. I bought my ski in 2006 and I have 138 hours on it. Its been a great ski.

Re: 4 strokers??

Do they have oil in the case like any other 4 stroke? If so what happens if they get tipped over?

Re: 4 strokers??

Honestly, I used to have a 2 stroke and upgraded to my 2007 VX. I have been very satisfied with it and love it to death. It goes over 50MPH, gets amazing fuel economy like you will not believe. No carb's to replace, impossible to flip over, VERY STABLE like a boat, beautiful and seats 3. Easy to maintain, easy to live with. I went riding yesterday, now at 140HRS.
I LOVE IT!

Re: 4 strokers??

i have pulled tubes and skiers on mine, last time i went skiiing and playing on mine still only burned a 1/4 tank in roughly 2-3 hours,

mine has tipped over only once, and there were absolutly no problems, some ppl say its slow or not fast enough, but hey, 52+ mph is pretty fast on the water, and ive ridden a 74+ mph seadoo rxt (gps btw) and it wasnt all its cracked up to be, yeah had a smile on my face, yeah it was enjoyable, but it would get old after awhile of just being able to go that fast and not play around or do the things i can do with mine.

its the best choice IMO,

if you want something a lil faster, for just a lil less gas mileage get the HO, anything supercharged you'll be dumping gas in all day

Re: 4 strokers??

No worries about the oil in case of a tip over. It has a dry sump system so if it tips you'll be fine.

Re: 4 strokers??

You can look at this many ways....from an environmental viewpoint its a 4-stroke. Many lakes have banned 2-strokes and all new skies tend to be 4-strokes (not counting stand-ups). If you look at speed you have plenty of choices with super charged engines. If you look for an all around family low maintenance ski; the VX or FX from Yamaha, Honda or Kawasaki products are very good. My Fx has now over 500 hours on with zero repairs other than regular oil/filter changes.
Have fun and be safe on the water. Head on a swivel!

Re: 4 strokers??

4 stroke is the way to go, Governator makes a very valid point, many places are outlawing 2 strokes because they are just plain dirty. Buy what you will enjoy riding!
