Oil change is quite straight forward. Use a FC-W rated marine oil for best protection, I've always used 10w-30 which is what will be rccommended in your manual, but yamaha are now recomending 10w-40. You will need a vacuum pump to get the oil out.......only around half is changed every oil change. If level is correct before change, then measure whatever you take out & replace the same amount. Never overfill.....halfway between marks when hot is fine.
Cup socket is best to remove the filter.......65m x 14 ......always torque up new filter...17Nm, which is not that tight. Owners often overtighten & then it is a struggle to get off next change.
Yamaha recommend yearly or 100 hr oil changes, whichever is first, but quite a few of us on here change more frequently.....every 30-35 hrs for me with a filter every other change. This seems to help keep oil comsumption down, which can become a problem with higher milage motors where changes have been neglected.

Re: 07 FX HO oil change

Be sure to protect the oil filter from rusting. Yesterday I replaced one for a customer I had smeared grease on last year. It had rust on it! Poor care by owner.
It's thin and will develop a pin hole with rust.
