'06 FXHO With A Hole In The Motor....Help!

Hello Folks,
New to the forum and already needing advice/help. My FXHO with 50 hrs on it came apart in the bottom end yesterday and there are pieces of the block in the hull. It's an '06 and had problems at 22 hrs last year in '07 and the local Yamaha dealer kept the ski for 1 1/2 years trying to iron out a "warped head" problem they claimed locked up cylinders 1 & 2. They tried to claim it was flushed wrong (it was definitely not) and finally put in a new Yamaha block and an SBT head. All's been fine until yesterday with 50 hrs on the clock. I was on a river about an hour away from the launch running about 30 mph, around 5k rpm, and it bogged down like it was running out of fuel or water in the fuel for about 5 seconds before I heard a loud bang and it shut down. It was a harrowing experience as I was without power in a rushing river. It put me in a tree'd up bank and when I got the seat off, I saw oil and pieces of the block in the hull. Guess I was lucky it didn't go through the hull and sink the damn thing. After many hours stranded and out of cell phone coverage a boat finally came and towed me back in.
I'm looking for any advice on how to go about dealing with Yamaha customer service or getting the craft repaired. My local dealer says all they offered was 90 days after the initial repair....period. And that was last year in '08. Are there any lemon laws concerning PWC's? Would they possibly apply here?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

a year and a half is rediculous. i would have been pissed to no end. there should be a waranty on the motor through yamaha especially when its replaced at a dealer. i would contact someone at yamaha and tell them your situation. id leave out the improper flush info even though its not true.

Re: '06 FXHO With A Hole In The Motor....Help!

Thanks for some replies folks. I was pissed to no end with them farting around a year and a half....all the while making payments to Yamaha Credit of course. You would think (and I hope) that Yamaha would stand by their product. I'm gonna call tomorrow, I was waiting to see on here if I could get any pearls of wisdom from someone who might have run into a similar problem and the lessons they learned dealing with Yamaha. My dealer is telling me a new motor is $4800 and still only offers 90 days of warranty. It WOULD have been $2500, but since the rod busted up the block, my block can't be used as a core. I'm definitely hoping Yamaha offers some help with the cost. My other big question is.....If I pay to get it fixed, since it has given me problems twice at 20 something hours, can I look forward to that again? $4800 for 20+ hours of use is pretty rediculous.

By the way, I only bought the Yamaha (was going to buy a Honda) and the more expensive four stroke model because I thought they were supposed to be so reliable. If that one boat wouldn't have came when it did, I was at least spending the night out in the Louisiana marsh in swim trunks and a PFD. Not the most protection from the alligators, snakes and especially the mosquitoes here in La..

Hey bayou - how did you make out with yamaha? Did they help you any at all? What part of louisiana (or as i say louseeana) are you from? I'm living in maryland now, but am from just outside of robeline. I know all about the gators, the snakes and those damn mosquitoes down south. Throw up a post to let us what happen with your ski.

Re: '06 FXHO With A Hole In The Motor....Help!

Hey SLTJ and Dan....still nothing on my ski. I was told by Yamaha to take it to the dealer (Coast Cycle in Gulfport, Ms.) and if they found the failure was due to no fault of my own, they would fix it. Took it in, and when the dealer spoke with their Dealer Tech (someone at Yamaha that the Dealers deal with), that guy said they weren't gonna do anything. I called the gal at Yamaha 3 times and left voicemails but no return call. In the mean time, my mother had a heart attack and I've been dealing with her both in the hospital and out. Now that she's out, I need to try to see if Yamaha will respond again and just what they will (more likely won't) do. I'll keep ya'll posted. By the way guys I'm on the Northshore above New Orleans.

Oh yeah, and GEAUX SAINTS!!! (just had to get that one in there....it's been a long time coming) )

I'll call Yamaha and let ya'll know what happens...fingers crossed.
