STX-15F Timing Chain

I'm about to pull apart the motor from my '04 15F. I think (hope) I just need to replace a bad piston. Anybody have experience re-building this motor? I don't want to remove the timing chain until I figure out how it's supposed to line up. Are there any timing marks that will make it easy to re-install the timing chain properly? Or should I just mark the chain and sprockets to make sure I don't mess it up?

Anybody have a PDF service manual that they can e-mail to me?

Yes the system is indexed so you can time the cams to the crankshaft position. It's simple but you need the book and there is a specific preceedure and also a precaution on reseting the one-way cam chain tensioner ramp. You need the shop manual? Try a search, I think I made a link a while back, if not I'll dig it up.

Re: STX-15F Timing Chain

be very cautious when redoing the timing tensioner, mine was done incorrectly and the chain jumped and bent a valve.

good luck

Re: STX-15F Timing Chain

Thanks. I followed the instructions in the service manual. So far, 1.5 hours run-time since re-building the motor and all is well.
