STX-15F Oil Filter (2008 model)

Does anyone know what the difference is between the optional oil filter and the regular filter? Kawasaki's parts site does not give any information other than 2 different part numbers. I was going to buy a K&N replacement because I like the nut affixed to the end of the filter for easier removal. On K&N's site they actually list the filter specifications and I see the option filter equivalent is longer and has a different relief valve setting.

I don't think oil filter is that much of a great concern on PWC, especially if they are OEM brand filters. I'd rather spend that extra money on oil - NMA approved synthetic. Also, the Kawi filter can be easily removed if you use the right sized filter socket. Just becareful not to hit/break the oil pressure sensor sticking out above the filter with your ratchet handle.

Re: STX-15F Oil Filter (2008 model)

The different heights of the filters are primairly due to clearance issues on the Motorcycles.

In my motorcycles case, I need to take the rectifier off, to get at the filter. If you get the longer filter, you need to add spacers to the rectifier, to get clearance from the filter behind it.

As to the different releif pressure, I would guess that it would be within spec's, or both Kawi, and K & N wouldn't be offereing it as an alternative.

I've had both on the pwc. But, currently use the SuperTech 6607, which is shorter.

I agree with Kawiski on the end cap socket. Also, much more cost effective over the long term.
