Steering cable broke 2008 15F

OK so I'm taking my evening cruise along the Hudson when suddenly I lose steering. Got back to the dock using my foot as a rudder, and got ski on trailer. The steering cable broke about a half inch from the nut that connects it to the nozzle. Now mind most of my trips are of the leasure kind. I go on long trips and and do not make violent sudden turns or jump waves. My question is this: has this happened to anyone else? Is a steering cable difficult to change? Should this be under warrenty? Any help would be great.

I beat my 2008 in the ocean, it's got like 50 hours with 70% hammering time so I'd say you have a flawed cable. I make vilolent turns and jump the sucker till my *** hurts. If the warranty has not expired get it fixed on their dime. It's not hard to change, just a bit akward. You might, and this is very slim at best be able to replace the inner part -not sure. I too go on long trips but don't ride alone on them

Well I checked on warranty. It seems that according to them, since my one year warranty expired and am now on their "good times" warranty, it is not covered. I'm a bit pissed to say the least.

Now my local and not-so-local dealer wants about 325 to change the cable; 125 for the cable, and two hours labor. Does this seem right or are they waiting for me to pass the soap.

They won't cover that under your extended warranty?!?! I just purchased a ''good times'' 2 year warranty myself for the same machine, I thought they fixed everything except stuff that was actual misuse or damage or lack of maintenance. I hope I didn't waste my money if I have any problems.

I'd be p#*sed myself also, have you tried calling Kawasaki customer service and complain?

Re: Steering cable broke 2008 15F

Not yet. However I am in no mood to drag this out for the entire summer. It's already Aug. only about 2 and a half more months of riding left. It's going to take at least a week to fix this damn thing. Will order part Mon. overnight it ($40 bucks! can you believe it?), and hopefully have it fixed by Wed.

PS.... can anyone give me instructions on how to change the steering cable?

This is exactly why I chose not to purchase that BS warranty! All I ever hear is that it takes an act of congress to get them to pay for anything. If you happen to have a buddy thats a mechanic try consulting with him first. These things arent that hard to work on you just need some mechanical abilites and the right tools for the job.

Re: Steering cable broke 2008 15F

Those are exactly my sentiments. So this is how my morning went: phoned every Kawasaki and pwc repair shop within about 75 miles of me and told them my troubles. Was given all sorts of prices like "part is 150 and it may take from 2 to 3 hours to change at 150 per hour." Now I know cars, Bentleys, vacations in France and college tuitions are expensive, but please at least use some soap when you're trying to screw me! At anyrate, finally found a Kawasaki dealer that wanted 90 for the part and 1.5 hours labor @ 80/hour to repair. Oh yes there were some shops thatseemed reasonable, however they would not even be able to talk to me for at least 2 weeks so that was not an option. So the end story is that I should be back on the water by Fri. Sadley, this Sat. is the first great day of the Summer that we have had here in the NYC area; temp 85; no threats of thunder storms; and low winds; a perfect day for a long extended ride.

My next project is going to be to purchase some basic tools and learn how to wrench in these things.
