Some advice for my New Ultra Lx

A few weeks back I purchased a brand new 08’ Ultra LX. I love the ski, but now riding it for a few weeks I think I should have shelled out the extra cash for an Ultra 250 or 260. Most of my riding buddies have the 250’s and when riding with them it kills me that I can’t catch up to them, anyway I wanted to ask for some assistance on how to open her up a little more. I have been dealing with “modified “cars for many years now, but am brand new to the wave runner world (and loving it). That being said, basic mods that most people install at first are I/H/E (Intake, Headers, Exhaust). Now are far as basic mods for the Jet Ski goes, what are they and what companies are recommended?
I believe the exhaust and impellor are the two of the parts that can get swapped out for more performance oriented parts, but wanted to get a confirmation on that? Also what manufacturer?

Second thing I wanted to ask was about maintenance? How often should the oil be changed (also what kind)? How often should the plugs be changed? Any other maintenance I should be concerned about?

Thanks for all the help in advance!

Re: Some advice for my New Ultra Lx

Power Mod
Forget it. It's a big hull ski. I think Kawi squeezed out from the 1500 motor as much as they could. It already makes more than 100 hp per liter. That's a lot from n/a motor. Even if you do something to make substantially more power, how reliable would it be?

Maintenance
Check the pump bearing/seals at least once a year for water intrusion and possible corrosion. When the bearing goes out, it can be quite expensive.

Yours already has the pump wedge, so Rive ride plate will give it about 2 to 3 more MPH. Intake air mod will give you more holeshot but no top end speed. Same can be said for exhaust mods. I believe you were right and should have got the 250 or 260. But the advantage you have over other skis' is that your ride is much more comfy and reliable than any super charged ski. Rule of thumb is more speed= more cash. You might want to do the timing mod, tho i don't know if it have been done on an LX. Go to greenhulk.net and research there

Just my opinion. You only go around once. Trade in your ski for something that has the ba!!s you're looking for and suck up what you're going to lose monetarily by amortising it over say 5 years. Is your enjoyment of life really worth say 40 bucks a month?

Thought about that already, went back to the dealership where i purchased the ski and talked to them, the numbers they threw at me i would end up loosing way to much to grab a 250, mabey over the winter there will be some sort of good deal i can jump on. realistically I thought about it and im happy with my ski.... With a few little mods im sure i will get it to where i like it even more! Thanks

Personally, I get over being beaten by a faster pwc pretty easily. A - The boat beat you, not the rider. B - Each year there will be a faster pwc, thus the guy beating you will get beat next season.

You have a cruiser. Same power plant as a 15F, different hull made for cruising. The complaints about your craft are the 250/260 guys complaining about range on a tank of gas. You don't have their problem. Plus, conditions for the most part don't allow a ton of top speed crusing. Morevoer, you are able to get more rider days, as you can deal with chop.

My 15F sucks at Lake Winnipeasaukee, excells at jumping ocean waves. If you want a more fun craft, then you need to change to one. Not a 260.

Many people find the first pwc they bought didn't fit their uses. Some take the trade $ hit, some just leave the sport.

Doesn't cost you anything to slap a posting up on CraigsList. Do that and ride in the meantime.

BTW, everytime I get a ride like the one on the youtube below, the guys with the speed pwc's are jealous !
