New impeller know vibration?

I installed a new Solas impeller and it runs great gained about 3mph top speed but I notice a vibration above 3k rpm. seem like the whole cowling is shaking? It does not seem to follow engine rpm up and down. It my be me that the first test run was on very calm water with no other pwc's around or waves and I just never noticed it before.
I checked all the bearings when installed the impeller, they all seemed smooth , no play back and forth? but did seem a bit rough when spinning the impeller by hand. should it have been very very smooth? I don't know what else to look for?

Re: New impeller know vibration?

What happened to the old impeller? Is the driveshaft bent. Look under the ski and have someone start the ski at adle the shaft should not wiggle/wobble at all. You should not even be able to tell it is spinning.

Re: New impeller know vibration?

The old impeller just had a few minor knicks in it from sticks and things but did not have a vibration.
If the shaft was bent wouldn't t the sides of the impeller hitting the pump housing?
I was pulling on the shaft pretty hard getting of the old impeller when it was in the vice?

Re: New impeller know vibration?

As mentioned, check the shaft true looking up thru the intake grate with the engine running.

Did you get the rubber gasket between the hull and the pump seated square ? Without any ripples/binding.

If not, it's possible to get it to torque spec's, which are not very high, and then vibration seated/altered it, leaving you loose now.

Part of the reason I take the ride plate off, rather than reach in, when pulling the pump.

I suggest, windex on the rubber to help it slide. Anti-sieze on the impeller and shaft spline.

Re: New impeller know vibration?

Cool, thanx for all the info. The pump went in very easy and I did have the ride plate off.
I will run it and give a look at the shaft..
I have ordered a new shaft and bearing today anyway. for $36 for the shaft it's worth just changing it out anyway for piece of mind
