How screwed am I?

I was fogging my 2005 stx15f and when I was pulling out sparkplug #2 The threaded part of sparkplug snapped and stayed in cylinder. Ipulled the plug out but the threaded part is still threaded to cylinder head. Can i use an easy out or do I need to take to a shop. All other plugs were removed with no problem. Help please

Re: How screwed am I?

i think you may need to take the head off then drill it out.
but it is a 4 stroke so pulling the head will be alot more difficult.

maybe you can drill a hole in it (not all the way through so metal doesnt get into the engine) and use an easy out on it.
pics would help.

I say when in doubt call a dealer... the one around here is good on giving it to you straight... even if they wont benefit (rare from what I have been told)

Re: How screwed am I?

use an easy out!! this happened to my truck twice!!! once the plug blew out of the engine and i had to drive it on 3 cyclenders to my aunts to fix it. long story but get the easy out that will fit the plug. you probably will have to either pull the head to do it or you will get all the cermanic junk in the cyclender. ill throw up a pic of the easy out i used with the plug piece still on it. just put in in straight.

Re: How screwed am I?

i got the whole plug out, just the thread part is still threaded on. I can look on top of piston and spray fog oil in if i wanted to.

Re: How screwed am I?

Had this happen on my 250. I kinda lucked out, I tapped a small standard screwdriver into the threads and backed it out slowly. Now, some have taken their ski to a shop and had it done. I also seen ppl remove head and take to a machine shop to get it out. Do a search and find some ideas on what to do.

Re: How screwed am I?

Before you mess with it spray some penetrating oil in the area to soak into the threads. If there is some dissimilar corrosion holding the steel threads to the aluminum ones this will be an aid. Then try the easy out.

Re: How screwed am I?

I would vote to pull the head, there is a chance of broken plug debis in the clylinder makes it too risky. It is amazing the amount of damage that just a little bit of ceramic or even a small portion of the plug threads can cause. A new head gasket would be way cheaper in the long run.
If you use an easy out without removing the head ,you may also cause metal shavings to drop in.
Remember that easy outs have sharp edges that cut in to the item being removed.
More possible shavings.!!
If you can already see the piston, the chances of debri falling in are very high.
Good luck
