Cooling Hose Location? Stx 12F

I did the search and I see where people say "check cooling hoses".

Which ones are these?

How do you get at the hoses UNDER the engine?

First, get a factory service manual or equivalent if you would do any work on your ski by yourself. In that way, you will do it RIGHT and you won't miss any.

There are several cooling hose clamps to be checked occasionally. At the pump, at the transom inside the hull, behind the engine, at the oil cooler, at the exhaust manifold, at the left side cylinder head, etc.

There are no hoses/clamps UNDER the engine.

Re: Cooling Hose Location? Stx 12F

Got it.

I have the owners manual, and the most I'm going to work on this thing is oil changes and winterizing. Everything else goes to the dealer....and I don't put as many hours on as others here do so it hasn't been to the dealer except for a recall.

Thanks for the answer. I thought hoses went under the engine but maybe those are just the bilge hoses. I'll have to check. At the least I'll check everything for tightness again. I checked what I could get at before but man that engine is jammed in there.

thanks again.

Re: Cooling Hose Location? Stx 12F

Firstable cooling hose coming off is not common at all on 12F when comparing to 15F or Ultras due to 12F's lower pump/water pressure. If your 12F has 20+ hours and nothing happened yet, I would say they are all tight. But it's good to check the clamps once in a while just in case. The most common places where the clamp comes off are:
1) Rear of the engine (stator cover), the LOWER fitting. Remove the black plastic shield and you will barely see it. Very difficult to get to.
2) Follow the SAME hose and it's the clamp at the other end at the rear transom (incoming from jet pump).
Some people put 2 clamps but again that's usually on 15F or Ultras.

deagle, just so you know, Kawiski is the best poster we have here on pwctoday !

If you picked up on the 12F problem threads from years ago, there were some reported hose problems on the first year 12F that ran under the engine. Not a problem on your year.

Re: Cooling Hose Location? Stx 12F

Thanks guys. I have about 50 hours on it and have had no issues at all. (if you exclude trying to get my big hands through the glove box area and get at the oil filter).

Also, I'm only on inland lake so the wave abuse in non-existant.

Thanks for the advice!!

Thanks for the tip. That might be a good idea for people with big hands when trying to access the oil filter. Watch out for the oil pressure sensor connector when using the filter wrench to loosen the filter - the black plastic above the filter. The flimsy plastic sensor connector can easily break if you accidentally hit it with the wrench as the filter suddenly loosens up.
