2007 12F Gauges Not Working

The gauges on my 2007 12F stopped working last week. Unfortunately, I wasn't the one riding the ski when it happened. Here's what I know:
  • Gauges were previously working correctly.
  • My brother took out the 12F and reported back that the speedometer was dead. I don't know if the gauge was like this when he started it up (after sitting for the week) or if it happened while he was out on the water.
  • I took a look at it and it looks like gauge is completely dead. No LEDs on, no "beep beep" when you turn on the ski, and the ski is stuck in SLO mode.
  • The connecting cables for the gauges (via the front hatch) appear to be secure and undamaged, however I did not disconnect and reseed them.
I'm thinking that the electronics are dead or that some connector is now disconnected somewhere in the ski. Any ideas?

This is not a new complaint. Search the Kawi thread.

Re: 2007 12F Gauges Not Working

I searched before posting and found one or two instances of this issue, however both were reported after the ski was flipped. This happened while the ski was covered and sitting for a week. I'm not too happy about this.

Next question is -- how do I get the existing meter assembly off the ski? Do I need to remove the handlebars to get access to the rear of the meter? I can borrow meter from another ski to test it out before ordering a new one. (See my thread in the main Kawi forum)

There are two 10 mm head bolts holding the meter to a metal bracket behind the meter inside the cowling..

Re: 2007 12F Gauges Not Working

Just to follow up --

The meter assembly (gauge) was fried. I replaced with a new part from Babbitt's Online, and everything is running great.

To remove the old gauge, I pulled:
The right mirror (3 bolts),
Reverse lever (1 nut),
Handle bar padding (4 screws and 2 bolts for the bracket underneath),
Upper hull fitting (2 bolts up front, 2 in back),
Cable gasket (2 bolts),
and finally the Meter Assembly (2 bolts)

I tested the old gauge on my 15F and it was dead. I sucked it up and bought a new gauge from Babbitt's Online for $640, much better than the local dealer. Reassembly took about 90 minutes. Overall, this was a simple procedure.

The old gauge had water and signs of severe corrosion. Ski was never flipped, and I don't know how water got into the gauge. Sucks, but it's good to be up and running again.
