Hey i've only got a 550 but would love to try out the surf. Was thinkin maybe i'd just come down and watch you guys.. get there saturday night stay till sunday night and leave around 5. Im not sure if that is enough power for the surf or how it is? Im a decent rider but i dont know how different the ocean is??

Re: Pismo oct. 24-25 whos going?

You can ride a stock ski in the surf, no problems at all. Make sure you wear a Helmet as you never know. The difference is that the ocean is Alive.....water is constantly coming at you and it has a lot of power. A small 2 feet whitewater wave can move your 300 pound ski with ease and beat the crap out of you. The waves have all the power of the ocean behind them so they push hard to shore.

I was standing in waist deep water holding my B1. Waves were basically passing by me, no big deal. I turn my B1 sideways and a small, less than 2 feet wave, push the ski against me, all of a sudden I have this 300+ mass forcing itself onto me, my legs get caught in the sand and my ski proceeds to run me over scratching my Helmet through the bottom hull of the ski. I came out at the other side spiting water with a WTF look on my face......"What did just happened?".....it wasn't a big deal but I was wearing a Helmet, if I hadn't, it would not have killed me, but I would have gotten Banged up pretty good in the head.

Is accidents like this, that take you by surprised and are completely unexpected, that you want to avoid, and of course if you are doing tricks out there as well....but you get my Point.
