Joe, I don't think you're going to catch any slack. You're not the only one who isn't a fan of Orwood. I know Jerry Powers got into a screaming match with that lady (or some other lady their) because he was launching out of the back of a truck at a non-busy time. He showed her a ton of launch tickets to show how much he comes their and she was like, "Oh! Okay nevermind." And I don't think Rick is a fan either. And I agree if someone has had a bad experience with a place, then they should take their money elsewhere.
But for me personally, I've had nothing but good experiences at Orwood. First of all, aside from me going their as a customer, they are a client of mine (or actually a client of the company that I work for) and they have been great to work with for what we do for them. And then secondly, the lady who takes the money is always really nice and friendly to me. She says stuff like, "heeeey you're back, have fun out there!" And a few times she's helped me zip up the back of my wetsuit because my zipper is broken. Maybe it's a different lady now. And the old guy who drives the golf cart always makes me laugh and often times will wait for me to give me a ride back to the water after I launch and park. The people in the restaurant has always been cool to me. And last summer when I went to ask them questions about the AWA Freedom Ride and camping their they were really nice. Chatty could tell you though if he or any of the people who camped their last summer had bad experiences. BUT, none of that are the reasons that I love that place. It's because of the summer atmosphere (it feels like summer recreational boating) and the location on the Delta (and from my house). It sits right next to my favorite riding spot, Indian Slough. For me, launching anywhere else would be a much further drive and a huge pain to drive to and to get to Indian Slough on the water.
But all that said, I agree with anyone for not going their money to and not being a fan of Orwood if they have had negative experiences. Just like I was not a fan of what
used to be a popular jetski shop because of a negative experience I had their, despite most people on this site loving that shop. Fortunately, I discovered The Ski Clinic one day when Derrick and Jack drove by my house when I lived in Discovery Bay.
