New SN SJ Rider in The Delta!

Hey all... Ive been lurking this site for awhile, and finally bought my first ski. I rode a old school 550 and had a blast, than I found a '90 SN SJ in pretty good condition for $450. It has an aluminum hand pole, spring, coffman pipe, 0* Umi bars, Umi billet finger throttle, protec plate, protec grate, skat trac impeller and a k and n. I have ridden it 3 times so far with no problems (carb needs a rebuild or adjustment, but still runs good).

However some friends and I went out Friday, and my ski came to a stop and had a whine/grind noise under the tray under throttle and no movement. We got back and I removed the pump and found that my driveshaft splines stripped on the driveshaft, and most likely the mid shaft as well.

In your opinions should I part out the ski, or replace the driveshaft, midshaft/coupler? Also does anyone have one I can buy? And lastly do you need to slide the motor forward to remove the coupler/ bearing/ midshaft assembly? Thanks for helping out a local rider.

I'm in Livermore also. We should go riding after you get your ski fixed. I have a 550, so I don't know the specifics of the SJ.

Re: New SN SJ Rider in The Delta!

that grinding might be coming from the bearing box, and yes you going to need the motor out to get the bearing box and shaft out. you can get a bearing and seal set for it. its easy to do I have done several.

it is worth fixing especially if the ski runs good.

P.M. me I can help you out.

Re: New SN SJ Rider in The Delta!

Tomski - For sure well go ride, Ive already met alot of cool people in the 3 times ive been out.

waterfly- pm'd ya

Karty - pm'd you too

I actually decided to part it out.... the shaft is kinda expensive for how much I paid for it. Im gonna post the list and prices in the for sale area tomorrow, but i'll give NorCal'rs first dibs since i wont have to screw with shipping. Im looking for a new ski now also if anyone knows of a good deal. Im pretty much looking for in order of preference 1) RN SJ, 2) 800 SXI, 3) 750/650 Kawi. If you guys want to come look at the ski tomorrow and see what you want before i start listing PM me and ill give ya my number. Its all in Livermore, I also have the title for the hull.

He's not selling anymore. I was going to buy the complete ski, but he made the better decision to fix it and ride it.
